Lot of guessing around and incomplete info on this thread - got some info from TX legal counsel to post. Looks to me the way they've got it set up, CC is more restrictive than having an LTC -

The serial number of the gun has to go on the paperwork that you fill out and sign. Has to be done at time of purchase.

Many of those restricted places have been addressed in other states in bills that were easier to pass. Incremental change is easier than the big jump.

Because in Chicago, the real “society” aren’t allowed guns. Just the anti-society, the mean ones.

Several bills signed, or will be signed- info from Texas State Rifle Assn-

Wonderful news from Governor Abbott this afternoon! Officially, HB 1927 Permitless Carry was signed today, but will be also part of a larger bill signing tomorrow.

TSRA is headed down to the signing at the Alamo for the bill signings of :

HB 2622-2A Sanctuary State (Representative Holland),

HB 1927-Permitless Carry (Representative Schaeffer),

HB 1500- 2A Protections during Disasters/States of Emergencies (Representative Hefner),

HB 957-Texas Suppressors (Representative Oliverson),

SB 18-2A Protections during Disasters/States of Emergencies (Senator Creighton)

SB 19- 2A Anti-Discrimination - the state can no longer do business with private businesses who discriminate against the gun industry (Senator Schwertner)

SB 20- The Hotel bill-which requires hotels to allow you to carry concealed directly to your room or coming from your room to you car (Senator Campbell).

SB 550- The LTC holster bill that allows those who wish to carry openly, to choose the holster that suits them best as opposed to current law which requires either a shoulder holster or a belt holster. (Senator Springer)

We are thoroughly delighted that our Governor is signing all of these bills tomorrow.

Thank you again to all of you who worked so hard to get these bills passed. Congratulations to you ALL!

As always, if you have questions or comments, do hit “reply” to this email and it will come straight to my inbox! I am always here for you!

Thank you all again!!!!!!

“Correct me if I am wrong, but this is an open carry law, not a constitutional carry law.”

Naa, we’ve had Open Carry for a while here, this is the real thing - if you’re legally allowed to carry, you can carry with or without a permit. The Republicans, led by Lt. Governmor Dan Patrick, did try to plot the demise of this bill, due to a bunch of paranoid Sheriffs thinking their counties would become a shooting gallery (as they also predicted with Concealed Carry and then Open Carry), so he was ‘deferring’ to them...but sorry Dan, we’re ADULTS in Texas and can handle guns responsibly...and we let you know just that.

The time on his desk doesn’t make any difference as long as it is signed by September 1st, the date new Texas laws take effect...

It’s both. Permits are optional come 9/1. No longer required. You can still get one if you want it for reciprocity purposes.

You will also need a permit to enter some businesses who will require it.
