'Fentanyl has changed the whole landscape': San Francisco faces worst drug epidemic ever
SF Gate ^ | June 15, 2021 | by Amy Graff

A physician, two nurses, a professional athlete, a drug dealer and a lawyer who had nodded off in court. Teenagers, specifically a 14- and a 15-year-old. And a 7-year-old who got into a stash in her mother's purse.

These are some of the types of people Dr. Christopher Colwell, the chief of emergency medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, has recently seen in the emergency room for medical issues related to fentanyl use and overdoses.

"That's just in the last couple weeks," Colwell said. "It’s really remarkable because it runs the entire spectrum. This affects all walks of life, all folks. It’s hard to overstate how impactful it can be to anyone. It doesn’t seem to care about race or background or gender — or anything."

Colwell said on average about 10 to 15 people who've taken fentanyl are treated in the San Francisco General emergency room a day, sometimes more. And that's at just one hospital in the city.

The majority of people are found passed out and brought into the emergency room by emergency medical services. Most are very sleepy and unable to stay awake. Those who are on both fentanyl and methamphetamine can be very agitated and unable to stay still.

Naloxone (Narcan) is a medicine used treat a fentanyl overdose and prevent death, and when administered, patients actively vomit and sweat.

"Our most immediate threat right now is the opioid epidemic and the trauma we are seeing. We are seeing increases I haven’t seen in my career around dependency and overdoses, mostly involving fentanyl. We always had problems with opioids, specifically heroin, but fentanyl has changed the whole landscape of drugs."

Stop treating overdoses. Quit using the Narcan and the problem will solve itself.

More recently, fentanyl is being illicitly made in labs

There is not a single mention, in a long article, of the fentanyl being smuggled in across the southern border, especially from China.

I wonder how many drug users are not even afraid of fentanyl because they tell themselves that Narcan will save them, which it usually does. Sad.

China is 100% responsible for this mess

China is the only country on Earth that allows production & export of opiods ... every intelligence service in every country knows this

And China’s strategy is to deliberately target Western youth, to subvert Western countries from within

It’s a malicious and deadly plan ... yet no politician seems to want pint out the obvious, and pin blame on China for what they are openly doing

So the mess continues ...

Notice when Trump had the borders secure and building the wall the numbers were way down. These people can pack enough in one bag to kill most of California.

If you think China has been pumping this in without the cooperation of our Deep State, you’re kidding yourself.

Fentanyl hasn’t changed anything. Fentanyl is a drug, not a person. People’s use of fentanyl has caused deaths. It’s a moral problem, not a medical problem. Why are people taking the stuff? That’s the problem.

China understands how drug addiction works after England did it to China.

The Opium Wars were two wars waged between the Qing dynasty and Western powers in the mid-19th century.

The First Opium War, fought in 1839–1842 between Qing China and Great Britain, was triggered by the dynasty's campaign against the British merchants who sold opium to Chinese merchants.

This is what happens in a woke society! The majority of the people will discover what is occurring when it is to late!

If the population of SF is wiped out, perhaps it can be re-created as someplace that is livable.

Cigarettes, actually. They called nicotine the gateway drug. They were right. A lot of people that experiment with tobacco when younger start working their way up the drug ladder. I was one. We thought we were so damn cool. We weren’t.

This affects all walks of life, all folks.

I'll wager that statement is just dead wrong...

I say it's more likely to affect liberal democrats and minorities far more then anyone else... I'm I wrong.?

Of course, we could always look at the positive side of the situation.. It could mean more income for medical facilities, mortuaries I'm sure appreciate the business, lots of overtime for the cops, Lawyers make out like fat rats, democratic politicians get bigger kick backs from the dealers, etc etc... There's big money in narcotics, and not just for the dealers...

And, not only that, but we get rid of a lot of the dead wood in our society..

I agree, everyone should get *at most* two narcan treatments events - after that, when EMS rolls up they should quickly use a fingerprint scanner or other means to find the ‘frequent flyers’, and let them die instead of treating - if someone is actively trying to kill themselves, no reason we should keep bringing them back from the dead.

My son is an EMT in a city plagued with problems like this - he complains pretty much his job is going around saving drug addicts from themselves, very often the same exact people time after time.
