 Fun Fact #1 The Navy’s parachute team dates back to 1969, when Underwater Demolition Team members volunteered to perform at air shows. In 1974, the team was officially given its name by the Chief of Naval Operations, who tasked them with demonstrating the Navy’s excellence throughout the United States. Fun Fact #2 The Leap Frogs consists of 15 Navy SEALs. Since only males can join the SEALs, all of the Leap Frogs are men. The team, however, changes constantly. Each member dedicates himself to a three-year tour with the Leap Frogs. After that time, he returns to military duty and is replaced by another SEAL. This rotation allows Leap Frog participants to participate in the military operations that they were trained for while also giving them the opportunity to enjoy time away from combat zones. Not all Navy SEALs participate in Leap Frogs. Some do not wish to join the group because they prefer to focus on military operations. Fun Fact #3 Leap Frog performers usually jump from an aircraft traveling at 12,500 feet above the ground. This gives the SEALs enough time to perform a variety of maneuvers. During freefall, Leap Frog members reach 120 mpg, but they can alter their speed by shifting their bodies into certain positions. They often reach speeds as high as 180 mph. Fun Fact #5 At the outset, personally owned parachutes and equipment were utilized, which provided little uniformity, no matter how well the jumps were executed. To overcome this dilemma and still remain within the “no cost to the government” provision, unique procurement techniques were employed. Innovation being the mother if invention, known only too well by the Teams of that era, produced Pioneer Jumpsuits, Bell Helmets, French Jump Boots, Altimeters and Para¬Commander Parachutes, the most radical change in parachute design in thirty five years. The Team initially consisted of five jumpers: LCDR Olson, PHC Gagliardi, SK2 “Herky” Hertenstein, PR1 Al Schmiz and PH2 “Chip” Maury. Fun Fact #7 Picture: Captain Norman Olson. When now CDR Olson was reassigned to the Atlantic Fleet in 1968, he again convinced his boss, Commander Naval Special Warfare Group, ATLANTIC, to establish a demonstration team similar to the one in the Pacific. For the next several years, the UDT SEAL Para Team ATLANTIC put on demonstrations throughout the East Coast, but the big break came in 1973 during the Annual Azalea Day Festival Air Show at NAS, Norfolk. Historically, this had been a Blue Angels/Golden Knights show; however, that year the Army had a scheduling conflict and had to renege. The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him.
Lamentations 3:25I dropped to my knees and let my tears fall to the floor. “God, why aren’t you taking care of me?” I cried. It was during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. I’d been laid-off for almost a month, and something had gone wrong with my unemployment application. I hadn’t received any money yet, and the stimulus check the US government had promised hadn’t arrived. Deep down, I trusted that God would work out everything. I believed He truly loved me and would take care of me, but in that moment, I felt abandoned.
The book of Lamentations reminds us it’s okay to lament. The book was likely written during or soon after the Babylonians destroyed Jerusalem in 587 bc. It describes the affliction (3:1, 19), oppression (1:18), and starvation (2:20; 4:10) the people faced. Yet, in the middle of the book the author remembers why he could hope: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (3:22–23). Despite the devastation, the author remembered that God remains faithful.
Sometimes it feels impossible to believe that “the Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him” (v. 25), especially when we don’t see an end to our suffering. But we can cry out to Him, trust that He hears us, and that He’ll be faithful to see us through.

What’s making it difficult for you to trust God today? What will help you feel comfortable enough to cry out to Him?
Father, I need You right now. Please help me to trust You to come through for me in my difficult situation.

VERY dry year so far.
Projecting for the year looks like this will be the driest in the quarter century that I have been keeping daily records.
Worse than last year which was second place only to 2016.

Hi radu, yes, looking forward to spending some quality time with my son.
We were actually hoping to get a reservation over Father's Day weekend but everything was reserved. I even tried for later in the summer but all weekends were booked through Labor Day.
The weather here has been near 100 the past few days but the cool down will come by the weekend.
The forecast at the lake is for possible rain and maybe 60 degrees so it'll definitely be cooler there!
Anyway, it'll be fun regardless, I'm going to teach him how to play cribbage and of course we brought our video games in case we get rained-in.
Howz things your way? Kittehs OK?

Yes, I did notice they were all jumping out of perfectly good airplanes and it made me a little light-headed. LOL
I’m such a wuss when it comes to heights.
Yes, I’ve had the Lake Hood cam up pretty much all day, watching the float planes taking off and landing. Been a busy day there today.
It was pretty this morning but right after noon the sun disappeared.
Did you hear the F-15s zipping around this morning? There were two of them flying around mid-morning and the cam op zoomed in on them for a couple of minutes.
We’ve had rain on and off today and there’s a line of storms developing to the west now. One of those dropped a tornado a little while ago, up around Clarksville.

I don’t know if you’ve checked Texas weather but we have a huge storm system about 5 miles west of us, moving pretty fast. If we don’t get rain from this one, I’ll be shocked!
