Convention of States Nebraska Pulls Off the Impossible

Just a few weeks ago, the Convention of States Resolution in Nebraska was all but finished.

After being stuck in committee for several years, one of our legislative sponsors, Senator Steve Halloran, made a daring attempt to pull the Resolution onto the floor. The procedural vote narrowly failed, and the rules stated that the Resolution was totally dead with no possibility of moving forward.

But our team in Nebraska--both volunteers and legislators--didn't give up.

In the final days of this year's legislative session, Senator Mike Flood proposed a motion to "suspend the rules" and place the Convention of States Resolution back in its original committee.

Thanks to Sen. Flood's inspiring words, the legislature voted overwhelmingly--30-14!--to suspend the rules and return the Convention of States Resolution to its committee!

But the team in Nebraska wasn't done yet! The committee met that same day and voted to pass the Resolution 5-4. This committee had been deadlocked, but our legislative champions and our amazing volunteers worked together to get the votes we needed to finally advance our Resolution.

Of course, we still have work to do. Now that the Resolution has passed through committee, it's ready to be considered by the Unicameral legislature in Nebraska in January of 2022. Unlike most states, which have a House and a Senate, Nebraska only has one legislative body in the state. That means that if the Unicameral passes our Resolution, Nebraska will officially join the 15 other states that have joined the Convention of States movement.

Nebraska may join the Convention of the States list in January. A significant victory there.

“I think that puts it at 16 states.”

Not passed yet. But you are correct on the number.

Is there a time frame that the states must vote for a convention? If one state votes for it in 2018 and the final state doesn’t until 2024 will they say that it doesn’t count since it isn’t in the same year?

I can imagine that George Soros is licking his lips in anticipation...

First he steals a Presidential election...
Next he can steal a Constitution...

We need an over/under pool on the billions he will spend to do it...
The communists are on a roll... Mostly cloudless skies in sight, at this point...

The unicameral is a great improvement in getting stuff done.

A Convention of states is terrifying. The crooked Marxist most assuredly are licking their lips.

There was a convention of the states called just before the Civil War.

The secession of the Southern States essentially nullified it, as I recall.

John Adams would disagree. A bicameral legislature is always preferable. And a bicameral legislature with an executive is the most stable and longlasting method of government yet devised.

But if Nebraska can make a unicameral legislature and a governor work successfully, good for them.

>>I think that puts it at 16 states.<<

I don’t think this will ever happen. Too many corrupt politicians on the state level with national aspirations.

Supporting a convention of the states will doom their chances of running for the U.S. Senate or House.

Yawn.

If conventions of states served the Left, we’d have had dozens of them by now.

The Marxists are steamrolling through our institutions quite well without assistance from Article V.

No time limit involved. An application is valid until a state legislature rescinds it.

No, there wasn't. We've never had one under the terms of Article V of the Constitutiuon.

They tried to get a Convention but it was too late. They had a meeting of some States but it was not enough to be official.

I’d like to know how “licking lips” can steal anything.

Are Marxists going to lick their lips and suddenly have a legislator’s vote presented to them so they can change it?

Are you saying state legislatures will be forced to mail in their legislative votes to be scanned into a Dominion type of machine?

Seriously, how can Marxists steal a legislature’s vote?

I must be missing something ..... please enlighten me, thank you.

Yeah, and watch (what remains of) the Bill of Rights get flushed down the toilet.
Very few people know the Constitution’s ONLY Charter was to make improvements to the Articles of Confederation.
