Jobless Texans say Gov. Greg Abbott's decision to end federal unemployment benefits will worsen their already dire situations
San Antonio Express News ^ | May 22, 2021 | Megan Menchaca

Since she lost her job as a customer service coordinator at a department store, Mary Baker has cut down on everything she can to make ends meet while she searches for a new job.

The San Antonio resident has unsubscribed from cable, stopped paying for some of her medications and cut down significantly on her air conditioning. But her roughly $3,000 monthly unemployment payments still don’t stretch far enough...

Critics of Abbott’s move say tens of thousands of desperate Texans shouldn’t have to choose between scrambling to find a job in the next few weeks or living with $1,200 less getting deposited into their bank accounts every month. Many jobless Texans say they are still facing difficulties reentering the workforce and are relying on federal unemployment to get by.

Perhaps - money has to come from somewhere, or transferred from somewhere to somewhere.

She should try getting a real job and become a functioning tax paying productive citizen instead of wanting to live off those that are employed and paying taxes and are producing.

If someone receives it then someone else has to first pay it in.

A friend can’t get any new hires. They don’t want to give up their freebie checks.

Yes, “Now Hiring”....not just restaurants.

Manufacturing, trucking and construction jobs are through the roof.

———————
All blue-collar menial labor jobs. Most of the remaining unemployed are white/collar service industry workers in industries still shut down, or small business owners forced to cease operations.

Trucking: $5.71/hr training wages for the first 2 months with the mega carriers like Swift or CR England… after an expensive CDL school costing $3000 to $5000.

Oh, boo-f’in hoo-no sympathy from me for that lazy broad-I’ve been living on less than $3K every month since the scamdemic cut my work and income to the bone-while the cost of goods and supplies keeps going up...

My best friend-whom I work for-and I met this AM to plan on doing even more of our own work, since the few laborers/ helpers available and willing to do a job are contracting to bigger companies in the city that pay more than we little people can afford-most of our customers are little businesses like us-and they are having the same problem finding even a counter clerk for their feed store.

A swift kick in the ass, no more monthly checks for doing nothing but watch TV, gain weight and whine is a good wake up call to return to work-it is obvious that the ‘rats are running out of OUR money to pay these leeches...

$3000 per month to sit at home. You gotta be kidding me. We have screwed up America big time.

It’s San Antonio, and it’s the express news of left leaning liberals..
San Antonio has 4 or 5 military bases around. Keeps the economy good.
Plus folks should stop with this instant gratification. Save up for what you want and pay cash. Then your bills will be easy.

My guess is that she has a huge overpriced house with massive mortgage payment, car payment on a nice car, credit card debt, maybe some student loan debt, etc.
Part of me thinks tough tuna — she should have planned for a rainy day, and part thinks that she isn’t the one who funded bat virus research in Wuhan and destroyed the economy with forced shutdowns. Personal responsibility wins in the end — she needs to adjust her lifestyle to her means while looking for more means and getting angry with the government that caused this disaster.

“Too lazy to work”

They need to leave-pack up and go to Cali, or some other blue state-I’m sure the taxpayers of those states will welcome them and their demands for free stuff with a monthly check with open arms...

She “cut down significantly on her air conditioning.”

It’s 74 degrees in San Antonio right now.

We don’t have the a/c on but are utilizing a neat invention called a window.

“utilizing a neat invention called a window.”

It is 69 out here now, and light rain-perfect for fresh air/open windows-I don’t think most people in town know what a window is actually for-or that they can be opened and closed...
