The Army has disabled the ability to comment on a series of YouTube videos that critics have labeled “woke” and soft, with military officials saying the Pentagon’s newest recruitment spots generated a massive amount of negative feedback online.
The series, dubbed “The Calling,” follows the life and path to the military for enlisted men and women across the country. The videos show service members from a variety of backgrounds and tell the story of how they ended up pursuing a career in the Army.
But some critics — including prominent conservative lawmakers such as Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas — argue that the ads highlight how the U.S. Armed Forces have rapidly become “emasculated” amid a focus on diversity and political correctness in the ranks, rather than toughness and lethality.
Thousands of YouTube users seem to agree, as the Army earlier this week acknowledged that it has cut off the comments section on the videos.
Laura DeFrancisco, a spokeswoman for the Army Enterprise Marketing Office, said the decision was made after a “significant uptick in negative commentary” in the comments section of the spots.
“Out of respect for our soldiers and their families, we have disabled the comments,” she told the outlet Task & Purpose in a statement.
Pentagon officials have vehemently defended the focus on inclusion and diversity. They’ve argued that it’s vital for U.S. national security to appeal to as wide a swath of Americans as possible and convince them to join the ranks.
One video follows a soldier named Emma and tells her story that “begins in California with a little girl raised by two moms” and continues through her decision to enlist in the military. Another follows a soldier who emigrated to the U.S. from Haiti and later joined the Army.

Excuse me? Pushing same-sex "marriage" down the throats of millions opposed to the redefinition of marriage isn't controversial? Promiting a child being denied a mother and father isn't controversial? Pushing for so called gay "rights" isn't controversial?
What does it mean when the US military, in which men have theoretically died to protect freedoms at home, including the freedom of speech, can’t take harsh comments on its own videos and deletes them?
It’s not the Army it’s the Morons Joe’s Puppeteers put in charge
Only the left can take a massive putrid Obama on the military in a manner to cause a lost of military prestige and respect.
I, and very many others, have NO respect whatsoever for our government (Democrats and RINOs). Those marshmallow spined losers currently in control cannot stand the fact that our military is very largely composed of individuals who are far, far more moral, honest, and capable of defending our country.
There is no existing set of rules that can adequately define what should happen to our media/woke politicians/universities, and associated hanger-on bits of excrement.
How absolutely pathetic and insulting. It's the same old pussy liberal trope -- "out of respect for blah blah blah."
If the "soldiers and their families" can't take some harsh comments about a video, how can they possibly handle the love dished out by their DIs at Basic?
We are SO screwed.
Skip the comments on YouTube and give the Pentagon a piece of your mind at Public Communications - DOD Public Affairs. Of course, that might put you on the target list when things turn ugly domestically.
They seem to have the ‘bright idea’ that the same folks
burning cities, killing minority members, refusing to stand
for the Pledge of Allegiance, or salute our flag, will make
better troops than Conservatives will.
If this heads down the path it seems to be headed for, I
wouldn’t give you much chance of the US winning future wars.
That type of military member, would side with China against
the US.
If we took a sheet of paper out and wrote down how to
neuter our nation, the steps would look just like the ones
they are taking.
The thumbs-down are leading thumbs-up 54K to 2.8K
You know I recall back in 2012, that infamous Rick Perry election campaign video where he spoke of homosexuals can serve in the military but you can’t read the bible in school, a video who got 90k thumbs down as opposed to 5k thumbs up until they shut the rating system off.
9 years later this is now happening to pro-gay videos which I thought would have been unthinkable. Makes me wonder what happened since then.
In most cases, it means that their character is as weak, contrived and artificial as would be their lifestyle choices.
The Army command is cringing in fear over a bunch of harmless comments? What will the Army command do when it takes fire on a battlefield?
Oh, boy...
I bet the videos don't appeal to a wide swath of Americans.
In fact I think it's racist, sexist...etc. to think that it does.
How come Trump could not block Twitter users, by Biden’s Admin can block comments on Youtube?
This mindset has been the norm in other government jobs; recruit the worst of the bunch because they'll stick around while the best leave after a tour or two.
Time for the true warrior class to sweep these freaks and faggots into the garbage bin.
critical words now take down the us military in 2021
” as wide a swath of Americans as possible”
I do not think >0.2% is a “wide swath”.
I think many people see gays serving in the military and ‘woke’ recruitment videos as two different issues.
