Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has called for a new carbon tax in a recent social media post, just days after announcing that Tesla would no longer be accepting Bitcoin as payment due to environmental concerns.

Breitbart News recently reported that Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated in a tweet that the company has “suspended vehicle purchases using Bitcoin,” out of worries related to the “rapidly increasing use of fossil fuels for Bitcoin mining.

So the guy who is selling electric cars and rooftop solar wants everyone who’s using fossil fuels (all of his competitors) to see their costs go up?

It’s almost like he wants to gain an edge on his competition.

Oil companies get subsidies. Don’t go attacking Tesla for asking equivalent of what other businesses get.

(Hey, if you don’t ask, they won’t say ‘yes’.)

The Federal government already sends $649 Billion a year to oil and gas companies in subsidies. They’re sending a bunch to solar and wind operators too. Personally, I think all subsidies should be phased out so the free market can decide what the best path forward should be.

And if we’re not going to let the free market do its job, let’s at least act in our own strategic interest and focus on energy and technology we can readily produce at home for long periods of time without relying on countries like China or terrorist-supporting regimes in the Middle East.

There are very few heros left in this world. Elon Musk has been one of mine. It saddens me to hear that he has said this. Maybe it was misquoted or taken out of context.

My understanding is that Tesla makes a ton of money selling carbon credits to car companies that make primarily ICE engines. But now that car companies are starting to make their own e-cars, Tesla is not able to sell as much.

But if Tesla is one of the few companies that makes all e-cars, then they can still stay ahead of their competitors by having them taxed on the part of their fleet that is still ICE.

Nothing like using the dead hand of government to "compete" in the market.

Carbon Tax is the smartest, easiest way to reduce Carbon emissions.

BUT - a recent AUDIT found ONE THIRD of all Carbon Offsets were FAKE!

In some cases, companies ran their processes creating as much carbon as possible, so they could run them normally and sell the difference as a Carbon Offset.

Nope, Musk has a looong history of making public comments to cause market panic that benefits him. It’s why he has been fined by the FCC and barred from holding both chairmen of the board and CEO position in Tesla.
