EXCLUSIVE: Kenney tells UCP caucus: ‘I want a new base’

Kenney used the Sunday virtual caucus meeting to go on a tirade about the No More Lockdowns Rodeo in Bowden.

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney told a closed-door UCP caucus meeting on Sunday “I want a new base” as he slammed the rogue anti-lockdown rodeo in Bowden, the Western Standard has learned

Kenney used the Sunday virtual caucus meeting to rail against the ‘No More Lockdowns Rodeo’, which attracted approximately 4,000-5,000 attendees over the weekend.

Three UCP MLAs, who spoke to the Western Standard on the condition of anonymity, said another MLA spoke up and reminded Kenney that the people who went to the rodeo were the “base” of the UCP’s support.

“If they are our base, I want a new base,” Kenney told the meeting, according to the three MLAs.

One of the MLAs speaking to the Western Standard said that it was “unbecoming” of the leader who united the Wildrose and Progressive Conservative parties into their “promised, big blue tent”.

A poll last month showed a stunning 75% of Albertans are opposed to Kenney’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, including much of the UCP’s voter base opposed to continued lockdowns. The premier has been fighting a caucus revolt against the lockdowns, and a growing movement from rank-and-file members to force an early leadership review.

Last April, Kenney had the support of 80% of Albertans in his handling of COVID-19.

Another UCP MLA told the Western Standard “Kenney believes only a small minority of Albertans take issue with this [lockdowns and other restrictions]”.

On social media on Sunday, Kenney called the rodeo “disturbing.”

“It is disturbing to see large numbers of people gathering this weekend at Bowden in flagrant violation of COVID-19 public health measures,” Kenney said on his Facebook page.

“We are all sick of this. We all want it to end. Thousands of Albertans are following the rules, sacrificing travel and social gatherings to do their part to stop the spread of COVID-19. Not only are gatherings like this a threat to public health, they are a slap in the face to everybody who is observing the rules to keep themselves and their fellow Albertans safe.

“On a personal note, I’m angered and saddened to see so many people selfishly put themselves ahead of others. Rodeo celebrates Alberta’s Western heritage, a key part of which is our community spirit and looking out for others, especially the vulnerable. That’s the opposite of what these folks are doing.”

On Monday, Kenney said that tougher lockdowns and restrictions were coming, driven by Albertans not complying with existing orders.

According to polls, Kenney’s UCP has already begun to see its base shedding support to the Wildrose Independence Party, founded as a merger of the Freedom Conservative Party and Wexit Alberta in June of 2020.

UCP fundraising numbers have also fallen off a cliff, raising just $521,589,86 in the first quarter, half that of the NDP.

The rodeo in Bowden quickly became a flashpoint in Alberta, with progressive media personalities and both NDP and UCP politicians condemning it as large segments of the UCP base rallied to it.

The organizer of the rodeo, Ty Northcott comes from a historic rodeo family and opened up his own livestock ranch in the late ’80s.

But the three Alberta COVID-19 lockdowns have hit his business hard, leaving him with only 50% of his normal stock because the costs of wintering and feeding them depleted his bank account.

He decided to hold the rodeo as a protest to the Kenney government’s COVID-19 restrictions.

Northcott, on Sunday afternoon, told the crowd the event was such as success he will hold another one July 1.

Jason Kenney, the CON-servative Premier of Alberta, is losing control, both of himself (witness the hissy-fit against actual CONSERVATIVES in Alberta) and of his Province. To me, he is ALMOST as much of a laughing stock as the Prime Mistake of Kanadahar, Justin Cockwomble. (No one can touch Justin in that regard.)

Amongst the latest actions that contravene the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms that his government has taken, is the GOVERNMENT SEIZURE and LOCKING UP of the Whistle Stop Cafe and businesses located beside the Cafe in Mirror, AB. Mirror, AB is a village of 500 people, basically, in the middle of nowhere. In addition to the cafe, the property contains a gas station and corner store. Both gasoline and corner/convenience stores (selling food and minor medications) are considered 'essential services' in AB. The next nearest gas station and convenience store is approximately 20 miles away, so this government overreach PUNISHES the people of Mirror.

Kenney, Il Douche, is to conservatives in Alberta, what Mutt Romney is, to conservatives in the US!

Am I more critical of Kenney than Trudeau? Likely. Why? Because I EXPECT illegal actions from communists but NOT from so-called 'conservatives'. Kenney, Il Douche, is wise to look for 'a new base' because he has certainly lost MUCH of his base, including me! Jason Kenney is a UUUGE embarrassment to Alberta!

Your actions have spoken louder than any words Kenney.

Should’a known RINOism is a transnational thing. Well living in DC I know for a fact that a politician losing his constituency is one of the saddest things that can happen to a feller - or a gal like Lizzie. I mean what’s a constituency for if you can’t abuse them in public.

Exactly the song I thought of when I heard Il Douche’s comment.

It’s real simple Kenney. Give the base what they want, if they all die then you will need a new base. If you disagree with the base, then step down and let the base select a new leader.

Kudos to the good folks of Bowden, Alberta. And Jason "Karen" Kenney can go 'eff himself.

I know the Bowden area well. There's a federal penitentiary there. Some years ago when I was traveling through the area there was a big news story in Alberta about a sex offender in that prison who had won a bizarre ruling in a Canadian federal court that gave him visitation rights in the prison with his young children. So his ex-wife (who divorced him after he was convicted of his sex crimes and sentenced to prison) was forced to bring the children to Bowden Penitentiary so they could visit their mutant father.

It was a big story in the news because the first visit -- under the supervision of a court-appointed social worker -- was scheduled to take place on the day I was driving past Bowden on Highway 2 up to Edmonton.

The visit was postponed because the government SUV carrying the social worker and the children was met outside the prison gate by a crowd of outraged citizens who threatened to remove the kids from the SUV, overturn it, and set it on fire with everyone else inside it.

The visit was canceled permanently because the convicted mutant filed a petition the next day to withdraw his visitation request. As I remember it, he showed up at the hearing battered and bruised ... looking like he had gotten a serious ass-kicking in prison within the previous 24 hours.

GOD BLESS "WILD ROSE COUNTRY."

No way he will win reelection. Going to war with your base
is not a perscription for political success.

That is what an HONOURABLE politician would do but Kenney has become a swamp creature! Over the years, he was quite conservative for a Canadian pol, but lately, he has displayed an incredible tyrannical, anti-freedom streak in AB, going against our Constitution!

What strikes me is, in his latest pronouncements, he is sooo insistent that EVERY Albertan TAKE THE VACCINE! Why? And why the illegal seizure of CHURCH property and PRIVATE property, and the INCARCERATION of a Pastor who, in good conscience, could NOT accept the unconstitutional (yes, even under the Canadian constitution) demands of bail. (He was to desist from preaching and stay away from his church. Of course, he refused and was held at the Edmonton ‘remand centre’ for 35 days, pending a hearing! Meanwhile, those held on ‘criminal charges’, including assault and drug dealing, were released so they wouldn’t get the CCP-Coronavirus.) Evidentally, Pastor Coates is more dangerous than violent criminals!

Has Kenney been brainwashed by ‘the swamp’? Do they hold something TERRIBLE over his head? Has he, or his family, been threatened by the CCP, or PM Cockwomble, in a way that absolutely terrorizes him? It absolutely makes no sense.

Life's easier when people like Kenney show their true colors... and the rest of us can find someone else to back.

Kenney's hissy fit was a favor to 'his base'...

There’s a graveyard west of Calgary that is experiencing tremors and the collapse of burial plots. This is from Ralph Klein spinning in his grave over what Kenney and the other CON-servatives have done to Ralph’s Province and Party. He is joined in the spinning by William Aberhart and Ernest Manning.

Unfortunately, courtesy of PM Cockwomble, we no longer are ‘Fortis’ and, in large part due to Kenney, we are no longer ‘Liber’. I do not know what has gotten into that man!

I just texted his 2ic to pass on a message for me. I can’t post it here or I’ll get banned, but it should hopefully infuriate him enough that he’ll pack his bags and go back to Ontario.

Kenney had ‘bona fides’ for decades as a conservative, both socially and fiscally. I can’t believe that he could have faked this for decades and hidden his totalitarian streak. I cannot understand what happened to him, what turned him into attacking preachers and churches and so many of his own supporters.

Kenney cannot win another election in Alberta. Ralph Klein’s ‘severely normal’ Albertans (of which I count myself as one) have generally, turned against him. The leftists always hated him. IF he GaS about Alberta, he would resign and let a CONSERVATIVE lead, perhaps someone like Brian Jean. I cannot see that happening, too big an ego.

If Comrade Nuttley of the NDP had a brain in that vacuous skull of hers, she would simply shut up and let Kenney continue to eviscerate himself and Ralph’s Party. Not that I would EVER give her good advice, but I know that she is not that bright.
