A Paris mayor has backed military chiefs who threatened to seize control of the country to fight radical Islam and prevent the 'disintegration' of France.
Eighteen serving officers who were among the hundreds of retired soldiers who signed the open letter to Emmanuel Macron are to be fired, the country's armed forces chief confirmed today.
But despite widespread condemnation, politicians on the right like Rachida Dati, mayor of the 7th arrondissement, continue to throw their support behind the signatories, who included 20 retired generals.
'What is written in this letter is a reality,' Ms Dati told France Info radio today. 'When you have a country plagued by urban guerrilla warfare, when you have a constant and high terrorist threat, when you have increasingly glaring and flagrant inequalities ... we cannot say that the country is doing well.'

The woman mayor of Paris may have.
But they do all have mustaches.
That’s never justified to say about the French army. Some French politicians caved in. But French soldiers suffered more in WWI than the Brits. But so we hear about is poppies, Flanders fields etc etc.
In WWII they fought hard also and inflicted huge casualties on the nazis. The Brits fled the battlefield. Wise strategically for Britain, but they ran home. In Singapore the Brits surrendered to a Jap Force a third their size.
It’s a hard task to find cowardice in the French Army.
And the French Foreign Legion is second to only US Special Forces.
We need more retired and active military along with patriots in congress doing the same thing HERE or the US will be run by an illegal, unconstitutional regime and their henchmen Antifa/BLM will most certainly destroy what’s left of America!
Oh yes. The legion is something else, right up to this day.
How many of the under-25s are Muslim? 20, 25%? Then add in non-Muslim minorities who feel they will also gain by violence, war, conquest.
The French are more likely to fight for their nation than the Americans are for this country. I believe that states will eventually secede if things get bad enough. America is a young nation and we do not have much in common.
