Call To The Post
KENTUCKY DERBY TROPHY Since the 50th running of the Kentucky Derby in 1924, Churchill Downs has annually presented a gold trophy to the winning owner of the famed "Run for the Roses." History is unclear if a trophy was presented in 1875 to the winner of the first Kentucky Derby, and trophy presentations were sporadically made in following years. Finally, in 1924, legendary Churchill Downs President Matt Winn commissioned that a standard design be developed for the "Golden Anniversary" of the Derby. Outside of the jeweled embellishments that were added to note special Derby anniversaries in 1949 (75th), 1974 (100th), and 1999 (125th), only one change has been made to the original design. For the 125th Kentucky Derby in 1999, Churchill Downs officials decided to defer to racing lore and change the direction of the decorative horseshoe displayed on the 14-karat gold trophy. Canteen Mission Statement
Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies military and family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
HISTORY OF THE KENTUCKY DERBY Founded as the Louisville Jockey Club in 1874, the original Churchill Downs was built by Col. M. Lewis Clark, the grandson of the famed explorer. Inspired by England's Epsom Derby, Churchill Downs hosted the first Kentucky Derby in 1875. Named for the original owners of the property, Churchill Downs is known for its famous twin spires, built in 1895. In 2004, the facility underwent a $120 million modernization, replacing much of the mammoth Victorian-era grandstand with luxury suites. Seats on Millionaires Row cost $50,000 (and up) for a table for eight. Suites are priced at $259,000 to $305,000 for two days, including Friday's Kentucky Oaks program. Reserved clubhouse seats (including lunch and open bar) fetch $1,776 per person (also for two days). General admission (infield, Derby day only) is $40. Of 133 Derby winners, 100 were born in Kentucky, followed by Florida (six) and Virginia (four). California has produced three Derby winners: Morvich (1922), Swaps (1955) and Decidedly (1962). Three fillies have won: Regret (1915), Genuine Risk (1980) and Winning Colors (1988). More Derby History CHURCHILL DOWNS While traveling in England and France in 1872-1873, 26-year-old Col. M. Lewis Clark, devised the idea of a Louisville Jockey Club for conducting race meets. Clark toured and visited with a number of prominent racing leaders, including England's Admiral Rous and France's Vicompte Darn, vice president of the French Jockey Club. Upon his return from Europe, Clark began development of his racetrack which would serve to showcase the Kentucky breeding industry. The track would eventually become known as "Churchill Downs." The first reference of the name Churchill Downs came in an 1883 Kentucky Derby article reported by the former Louisville Commercial. Click for the rest of the story

From what I read, you’re going to be running out to your deck a lot the next couple of weeks. LOL I should have kept the link that was posted to one of your news station’s sites about the big military exercise that’s gearing up.
It’s going to keep the cam ops busy following the planes that fly close enough to Lake Hood to be in view. It’ll be fun to watch. There were several today.
You have a gorgeous sunset going on right now. Pink, orange, and turquoise sky.

Be sure to support these artists and attend their concerts when they come to your area.
How's everyone doing this morning?

Yep, the thunder died and the rain tiptoed around us. Well, maybe if it comes again in a week, it would be better. That way, we could go another week without spending money on watering. It really gets expensive!

Those rain bands are moving SE to NW and there’s still rain SE of you. You might still get a little before the night’s over.
It would be nice if a similar system cranks up next week so you won’t have to water the lawn.

We can hope. And now that the guys have the corn planted, we can hope they get just the right amount to make it grow fast so you can enjoy a season of privacy.
Now I’d better go. I was in the middle of a movie and forgot to watch the time. See ya tomorrow night!

All we can do is what we do every year - - hope for good weather for the crops and a good yield in the fall. It’s always a gamble.
You betcha we’re looking forward to the privacy later this summer. :-)
You’re gonna be a bonafide vampire like me before much longer. LOL You’ve stayed up mighty late this past week.

Where’s the NFAC outside the gates?
Where are the BLM markings all over the jockeys and stands?
Where is the kneeling for all the Saints that died for black rights this past year?
I see that garbage again, it’s ignored.
I have no clue what’s going on in current racing, since they proved racist and condescending.

No vegetables this year, only flowers and plants. I am still uprooting green beans from two years ago. They are very stubborn and tried to take over the whole garden.
This year are roses, climbing roses, new hibiscus seeds which is supposed to have exceptionally large flowers, pisquala, confederate jasmine, A flowering plant from East Africa whose name I do not know, Colocasia ( elephant ears, ) white caladiums, red caladiums, peach mandevilla, burgundy mandevilla, papaya trees, gauyava trees and a mulberry tree. I am hoping to plant a few fruit trees.
Surprisingly, the burgundy hibiscus came up even after the hard freeze and snow. The seeds of this hibiscus have propagated, too.
I did plant some bell pepper seeds but I do not know if they will sprout. I do not know why but I really like bell peppers. ( As an aside, bell pepper is truly a diet food. It takes more body energy to digest and process bell pepper than the nutrients in the food. Eat bell pepper and lose weight! ;-) )

It is good that y’all got 2.75” of rain which the desert really needed. However, I still remember the cold, winter winds which would actually rock the platforms and be bitterly cold. ;-)

Yesterday was the Kentucky Oaks, first leg of the Triple Crown for Fillies, also at Churchill Downs.
If one of the colts identifies as a filly, can he run in the Oaks?

It sounds like your yard is going to be gorgeous with all you’ve planted this year. I hope we’ll get to see a few pix later o when things are blooming.
I hear ya on the green beans. LOL I planted some several years ago and they went crazy.
I didn’t know that about bell peppers. Dang. I love them, too, but maybe I don’t need to eat them. The last thing I need to do is lose weight!
