Shocking new video shows two Colorado cops under investigation for their violent arrest of an elderly women with dementia laughing and cheering - and giving each other a fist bump - as they watched body-camera footage of the altercation hours later.
They were celebrating all while the 73-year-old woman was suffering in a jail cell, the photos reveal - disheveled and seeming to lose consciousness several times.
Loveland Police Officers Austin Hopp and Daria Jalali arrested Karen Garner on June 26, 2020, after she left Walmart without paying for a candy bar, a can of Pepsi and a t-shirt totaling $13.38.
City officials haven't apologized to the woman or her family, according to the Loveland Reporter-Herald. The footage of the arrest went viral on social media after its release earlier the month in the wake of a new lawsuit against the department.
The suit says during the first hour Garner was in custody, she said: 'They hurt my shoulders' 22 times and 'They hurt my wrists' 13 times. She wasn't given any medical treatment.
A statement from the attorney representing Garner in a federal civil rights lawsuit against the department said supervising officer, Sgt. Phil Metzler, who also is under investigation, knew Garner was injured and allowed her to be kept in a holding pen with no care.

So you think shoplifting by a woman with dementia deserves a broken arm and dislocated shoulder. Go back to being the blog police, Jerk
Didn’t Mention her color in the story. She looks like my wife’s recent deceased 94 yr old frail spindle of a woman, with as much strength as a near dead cat.
BASTARDS
The Tree Cops WILL trim that mess back, you betcha.
Little early to be drunk already isnt it?
“Are you drunk again?”
Excellent question. I’m relatively new to FR, but have noticed that dude appears to be a belligerent a-hole.
So they're not sorry for arresting her for shoplifting.
Free cokes and candy bars for everyone!
Just grab what you want, right?

She has dementia. Sheesh."
=====================================================================
"We" know that, now, after the fact.
How would the arresting officer(s) know that?
They also need to be clinicians with the ability to diagnose someone as having a sound mind and body before arresting them? Quite the paradox that would be.
Just grab what you want, right?
-——let’s tell every She identified as a black lesbian.
Let the burning, looting, murdering begin.
Ironically, the “defund the police” movement and the demonizing of cops by the media will actually generate more bad cops. Idealistic and civic-minded young people who want to serve the public will elect to pursue other careers, and the only ones who will want to become policemen will be sadistic thugs like Austin Hopp.
This is America. I need not limit myself.
I can police any dang thing I like and you can suck it up.
They let her sit there for 6 hours untreated by medical. This is clear proof they knew she had a serious injury.
The city will pay -big- on this one.
Idiot. She has dementia.
Look at you, all perceptive and stuff.
now, if the allegation here is true regarding mocking the person getting hurt during the arrest they performed, then disciplinary action is absolutely in order.
To be fair to the idiot officer who shot Dante Wright, the male cop who had Wright out of the car completely fluffed putting the cuffs on and she ran up to try to help him before Wright could start resisting. Watch the footage closely. Up to that point, she was doing things right. After that, well... not so much.
Maybe I do too. Why you so mean and uncaring?
You must hate dementia people. You're going to hell.
If you had cokes and candy bars I'd steal them and sue you if you objected.
Do your “loved ones” often rip off cokes and candy bars?
————really? That’s what you write?? When you call me an azzhole, that’ll make two us.
Yes, crazy aunt walked out with a ham. We went back and paid for it. Because she had onside caregivers.
I pray that no one you know ever has dementia. Wouldn’t matter if you get it, Because You Won’t Know. SMH
You have probably never had to deal with a loved one with dementia, as I have. That woman could have forgotten that she hadn't paid for the items, something that could easily happen to someone with severely impaired short-term memory.
Wow. Thanks for proving my point. I rest my case.
This is true in all areas of public service. Why do politicians suck? There's your answer.
