Colorado cops LAUGH about breaking arm and dislocating shoulder of dementia-suffering woman
Daily Mail ^ | April 26 | By MEGAN SHEETS

Shocking new video shows two Colorado cops under investigation for their violent arrest of an elderly women with dementia laughing and cheering - and giving each other a fist bump - as they watched body-camera footage of the altercation hours later.

They were celebrating all while the 73-year-old woman was suffering in a jail cell, the photos reveal - disheveled and seeming to lose consciousness several times.

Loveland Police Officers Austin Hopp and Daria Jalali arrested Karen Garner on June 26, 2020, after she left Walmart without paying for a candy bar, a can of Pepsi and a t-shirt totaling $13.38.

City officials haven't apologized to the woman or her family, according to the Loveland Reporter-Herald. The footage of the arrest went viral on social media after its release earlier the month in the wake of a new lawsuit against the department.

The suit says during the first hour Garner was in custody, she said: 'They hurt my shoulders' 22 times and 'They hurt my wrists' 13 times. She wasn't given any medical treatment.

A statement from the attorney representing Garner in a federal civil rights lawsuit against the department said supervising officer, Sgt. Phil Metzler, who also is under investigation, knew Garner was injured and allowed her to be kept in a holding pen with no care.

I don’t doubt that you saw it. I doubt that was the real reason Walmart called the cops.

It’s heart breaking to watch. Where is the humanity? These are the people who are supposed to protect us. They acted like animals. Now 2 more cops added to suit for not getting her medical attention for hours. Are they blind? Maybe if she said I can’t breathe?

There should be a recording of the call. The woman supposedly offered to pay, but they refused.

Lucky she didn’t break a hip when thrown to ground.

Again, the big male officer completely flubbed that. What set Wright off was the idiot dispatcher literally announcing on the radio (where Wright was going to hear it due to the cops’ radios and the PA system on the cruiser), “He’s got warrants.”

He didn’t back off in anticipation of the tasing - in fact, he got into closer contact when the Taser use was announced. The only cop in that whole incident that didn’t screw up was the male officer on the other side of the car... that the female officer almost shot.

It’s a matter of how they arrested her.

An elderly lady well under 100 pounds does not need strong measures.

Maybe the next time you get a parking or speeding ticket you could have your car torched by the police.

We’ll be cheering for those police as you are for these.

My father in law had rapid onset Alzheimer’s. He went from mildly forgetful to babbling, incoherent, not knowing who we were — in 30 days. The last time he was out on his own, he got lost and wound up in a doctor’s office, saying that he had to be at my house to talk to the contractors. Cops were called. In some places, I guess they would have just shot him. Some people on this thread seem to think that would be OK. In my FIL’s case, the cops took him home. In the rare cases when the disease jumps through multiple stages in weeks not years, it is hard to know when a patient needs to be confined. We took the keys away in April. He was dead in October.

Do your "loved ones" often rip off cokes and candy bars?

It's not uncommon for people suffering from some degree of dementia to steal or even just pick up what they want and wander out, forgetting to pay for it.

Very sad. Thank God the cops were kind and brought him home. Glad he didn’t suffer too long. Still heart breaking.

There are people who do not understand dementia and prefer to blame families who are coping with rapidly evolving disease.

Suffice it to say Benjamin Crump is too busy to come to her rescue.
This story is sickening.

I have woken up from nightmares about that particular punishment.

While there are other extremely degrading and permanent (deadly) punishments, that is the one that scares me beyond measure.

A fear of creepy crawlies has been my downfall all my life; years ago when I learned about that punishment....it sent my imagination into overdrive.

Apparently you are under the impression that everybody has a responsible and caring family. Many people do not.

Not all cops are bad. Not all blacks are bad. Not all whites are bad.

Blame the individual, not the mass.....except the fascists. Those are definitely all bad.

I think he knew that they knew he had warrants. He was being cuffed, after all. Maybe he just felt them fumbling and took his last chance. Dumb. Still amazed that he got seated, got the car started, and got away

“Every time I forget something I know I knew I wonder if that’s the start of my slide into dementia.”

Years ago I experienced a sever mental breakdown which caused me to lose a great deal of memory along with the ability to retain memories.

Went from being a Go-To person to being the one asking so many, many, questions. I compensated for it by putting everything in writing and making wonderful checklists that actually worked so well that others would use them for the job. LOL

That said, I was eventually told it will get much worse because of what happened - no way to undo the damage.

I can ask questions and in the next 15 to 20 seconds have forgotten the answers...heck...forgot I’ve even asked the question.

Told my beloved husband (who’s got an excellent memory.AUGH) that if I ask a question 100 times he is to answer it civilly 100 times.

It’s coming, though....I make jokes about it all the time with those I see on a routine bases and even strangers if they’re having bad days.

LOL It can always get worse in this life.....

I’ve told my beloved that if the LORD grants me a way of dying I would prefer it to be long term so I can clear out all my stuff and not leave him to have to do that task.

Got to look it and roll with it... I think, it’s harder on those who are truly alone these days because they actually get diagnosed with what’s going to affect them.

Our local jail turn keys will not accept such an injured prisoner. The officers take them for treatment and return when done. It’s how it’s done here.
