Rutgers Professor Britney Cooper
Rutgers University associate professor Brittney Cooper said Ma’Khia Bryant, a black teenager whom a police officer fatally shot after the 16-year-old appeared to attack another with a knife, has been “adultified” because “she was a big girl,” making the remarks during a Thursday appearance on MSNBC.
Cooper discussed the fatal police-involved shooting of Bryant, who is seen on camera wielding a knife, lunging at another girl.
“Look, the arguments for our movement have never been that black people have to be perfect in order for them to deserve dignity, for us to have good policing, for us to be viewed with humanity, for cops to take a breath before they literally get out of the car, guns blazing,” Cooper (pictured) told host Joy Reid, later contending that some do not “understand black girls as girls.”
“But beyond all of that, what are we gonna do about the way we don’t understand black girls as girls?” she asked.
“Ma’Khia Bryant was a child … and the way that she has been talked about as this, you know, because she was a big girl, so people just see her as the aggressor, they don’t see her humanity,” Cooper asserted.
“They have adultified her. We turn black girls into grown women before they even are able to vote,” she continued.
“I have watched folks across the political spectrum really defend this and say … and empathize with the officer, say that he didn’t have any other set of choices,” she added:
What are we training police to do if they are not actually showing up on the scene and making the situation better for all involved? If you can’t figure out how to deescalate a 16-year-old, even with a kitchen knife, when you’ve got a gun .....

She ‘adultified’ herself by her actions....and her actions resulted in her death...
Morbidly obese and black teens seem to go together a lot these days.
Excuses from their elders with their insane ideas are also par for the course.
When someone is behaving as the knife wielding girl was their age is not a factor in determining what actions the police ought to take. Preventing another victim of the knife attack was 100% of what the police had to consider, not the age of the attacker. They did not error in not considering the attackers age.
Only grease flows through those veins.
These people are insane blobs. Stacy Abrams included.
No, according to the msm she was a little bitty 16 year old child who didn’t know how to make her own bed that a big bad cop shot.
In Ohio, a minor can be charged as an adult at age 14. She was 16. Do an adult crime and you deserve to be treated as an adult. She had the choice not to try to kill everyone that day and to put the knife down when the cop told her to. She also had the choice to tell her foster mother happy birthday and to take 3 minutes to make her bed as a way of thanks for all she’d been given.
Ford Foundation is what obamy’s mama worked for. They’re all the same.
A big girl with a big knife.
A “knife fight” happens when both participants have knives, and actively try to slice each other up. When only one person has a knife, and tries to cut the other person, that is called “assault with a deadly weapon”, or “attempted murder”.
It looks like a homeless person who rolled out of a doorway still on a cheap drunk.
“Look, the arguments for our movement have never been that black people have to be perfect in order for them to deserve dignity, for us to have good policing, for us to be viewed with humanity, for cops to take a breath before they literally get out of the car, guns blazing,...”
There is a tremendous difference between being “perfect” and being an attempted murderer. You would think a “Professor” would know that.
Ditto that. There are universities that have diversity and inclusion departments that have scores of employees and big time budgets. If a bunch of 20 somethings can't get along at college something is terribly wrong with K-12..
Is there anyone with any mental capacity who would listen to a Rutgers professor? I mean come on, Rutgers is the state university for New Jersey.
Apparently Rutgers is dragging the bottom of the river for university “professors” these days.
And the idiot parents shell out big bucks to send their moronic kids there.
Yes, and a 16-year old should be eligible to vote. Beam me up, Scotty...
The camera adds....ten TONS!
If only she’d grabbed the plastic knife from her Fisher-Price play kitchen.

associate professor and evidently it doesn’t take a whole lot to become one. I think half of antifa are associate professors
I guess this moron forgot the case of a few weeks ago of the two girls, one 13 the other 15, who carjacked a guy and killed him. How about that! Children can kill as well!
“If you can’t figure out how to deescalate a 16-year-old, even with a kitchen knife, when you’ve got a gun and you’re a grown man, you shouldn’t be a cop.”
Obviously, she did not watch the cam of the incident. The violent fat child’s knifepoint was a millisecond away from stabbing the skinny child in the jugular when the average weight cop, who arrived seconds before, shot the fat child to save the life of the innocent skinny child. Is this “professor” not satisfied with a racism fake narrative that she has to add a weightism fake narrative?
