Yes—and a sample of questionable ballots might be given a more detailed scientific analysis to determine if those ballots were folded recently or multiple ballots signed with the same ink. Ballots could contain dust or airborne residues (such as trace isotopes) that could only have been deposited after Nov 3 (think the Iceland volcano). There are other analyses of the paper and ink that could help determine the validity of the ballot. Of course, there is also the possibility that a human could offer sworn testimony that he or she faked ballots—the audit could scare them into a confession. Lots of possibilities.
