The chief of the Pentagon’s Central Command said on Tuesday the U.S. military may keep troops near Afghanistan after the delayed withdrawal planned for September 11, 2021.
Speaking to the House Armed Services Committee, Gen. Kenneth F. McKenzie, Jr., reportedly stated the Pentagon is engaged in “detailed planning” to ensure that the U.S. military can act against threats in Afghanistan without a permanent presence there. McKenzie’s comments followed assurances last week from Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a visit to Kabul that the United States would remain an active participant in the construction of a democratic Afghanistan in a civilian capacity even after troops leave.

They don’t care if what they’re doing doesn’t make sense.
Reopen Peshawar AB now? Just. Bring. Them. Home.
Colonel, USAF (ret)
Agree. If we are going to keep them deployed, why not keep them where they can stabilize Afghanistan?
FWIW - I want to bring them all home. It is easier (and cheaper) to go back in and bloody their nose than it is to occupy and try to rebuild a country that is not able to function on its own.
Moving to neighboring countries provides the opportunity to spend billions or tens of billions on the move.
Then there’s this gem: “…the United States would remain an active participant in the construction of a democratic Afghanistan in a civilian capacity even after troops leave”
That’s going to work out real well, as always. The only democracies the US created were Germany and Japan after complete and total destruction.
It’s the old ‘now you see them, now you don’t’ sleight of hand ploy. By doing that he can say he took them out, even though in reality he didn’t.
The war machine must be fed.
Sure it make sense, the Dummy Mummy cannot make a decision that follows the correct path laid out by out last best president since Reagan.
What neighboring countries?
They are all hostile dangerous crapholes.
Pakistan?
Iran?
Turkmenistan?
Tajikistan?
I think I spot a trend there.
So basically they will be transferred to Syria.
Translation:
When Trump ordered the withdrawl, we had to scramble quickly to secure our profits in the Opium and Meth trade, $10-$15 Billion a Year. Now that Biden is in charge he realizes we need more time to secure our products and we will stay close by to make sure our products get to market and we get paid.
> the United States would remain an active participant in the construction of a democratic Afghanistan <
A democratic Afghanistan? I sure hope the Biden administration is just trying to save face. Because a democratic Afghanistan was an impossible mission from day one. So let’s not spend even one more American life or one more American dollar chasing that dream.
As a side note, I won’t be too tough in Biden here. He is roughly in the same position Nixon was back in 1972. The inevitable collapse in Afghanistan will all be on George W. Bush.
You cannot stabilize Afghanistan any more than you can stability Shitcago.
And you would be 100% correct.
I guess we are now going to have another military branch: Blackwater. Who the hell in the right mind would want to work on projects with the savages? Consider, these slugs kill health workers distributing polio vaccines. We made one big mistake, should have left the place looking like hiroshima circa August 10 1945.
The depth of Biden’s stupidity is unequaled in the history of the multiverse.
You cannot fix Afghanistan, but you can stop the Taliban from taking the entire nation over. They already control a good portion of it.
With that said, I am done in Afghanistan. I lost friends there who were trying to rebuild a failed nation state because the diplomats, republicrats, UN, and contractors turned it into a giant slush fund of FAIL.
Yes, I am bitter.
Screw em. Bring the Boys home.
Let’s put em in China.
