"He thinks I’m not Black enough. Seriously," Williams said after being told he wouldn't be a guest on the show.
Panamanian-American journalist Juan Williams said a white TV show host dismissed him from discussing George Floyd's death and subsequent social unrest because Williams wasn't "black enough."
Williams alleges the host is on the PBS-affiliated show "This Is America & The World" and that he declined to have Williams talk about race-related issues because he was born in Panama, not America. Williams, a Democrat, said he received a note from the show host telling him about his decision.
"A white TV host recently dismissed me from appearing on his show to discuss race relations by telling me I didn’t qualify because I was born in Panama," Williams said in his opinion piece in The Hill. "He thinks I’m not Black enough. Seriously."
Williams does not include the language of the note or the name of the host.
Floyd died in May 2020 while in the custody of Minneapolis police, sparking protests about police brutality around the world.
A PBS spokesperson told Mediaite in March, when the incident occurred, that the show may be carried by a "small number of member stations (but) it is not offered by our national feed and is not produced by PBS."
Williams, a paid Fox News contributor, said being rejected to talk about the issue because of where he was born is a "new one."
Williams has written several books on race relations in the United States and has worked for a wide range of media outlets, from The Washington Post to NPR to Fox News.
Affirmative action Jackson.
Juan Williams’ wife, Susan Delise, is white
Their sons are conservatives.
I have a feeling deep down Juan doesn’t believe half the crap he spews, but like all TV pundits, he’s an actor playing a role.
Interesting that Fox is the only news network that will hire him.
I'm guessing the 'host' who turned Juan Williams down was a commie who was looking for a hater. Juan - as usual - handled the situation with grace. It would have been more fun if we had know the name of the white liberal 'elite' phony... white jerk, rich daddy, went to private schools and doesn't know crap about the real black community. Juan lucked out...
Bingo! You aced it!
‘I have a feeling deep down Juan doesn’t believe half the crap he spews, but like all TV pundits, he’s an actor playing a role.’
Bingo! He wrote a book dissing black poverty pimps Sharpton/Jackson. Then throws racism around. He can go back to PBS.
Would they ban Barack Obama because he’s only half black?
How does it feel to be canceled Juan?
Juan’s son, Raffi was born in the US and he’s still black. Maybe he would do, although he is a Republican, so that might complicate advancing the NPR narrative.
Sounds like Juan isn’t a “token” anything these days.
No Juan it was because you are a dumb sob.
Didn’t know he was Panamanian also. At least he has stopped giving those ridiculous facial expressions of extreme befuddlement he used to have when listening to conservative truth speakers. Those were funny.
I am starting to think Panamanians have been propagandized with racism from their youth...
someone send Williams a copy of Black Like Me?
I honestly don’t think anyone cares he’s a strange one.
I honestly did not know Juan Williams was born in Panama until I read this
.......................................................
I always thought he was born in Stupidville.
Panamanians are more American than what can be found in California.
Well, I have nothing against Panamanians, it’s just that
I’ve had it with hyphonators. (smile)
