The 26-year veteran made the move “in the best interest of the community.”
Potter, 48, tendered her resignation Tuesday in a brief letter to Brooklyn Center Mayor Mike Elliott and Police Chief Tim Gannon.

Don’t know the particulars but if the victim had a long rap sheet it’s not just good for society but for the gene pool. It should be taken into account. I’m lucky and successful but one must know you create your own luck. This guy created his own misery and paid for it. Harsh?
Has the officer/official who shot Ashli Babbit, at the US Capitol, resigned, yet? Do we know?
Pistol grip on each.
dont care 26 years and she f’d up 1x cut the BS
It seems I recall the same thing happening in the San Francisco subway a few years back.
Thanks.
Interesting they are throwing a white woman under the bus for this.
Politically a very risky move.
The right move IMO.
It’s happened at least a half dozen times.
Never should have been a cop in the first place.
I believe there are others.
Why don’t these ppl who are stopped by police COMPLY???? all who have been wounded or killed are NOT complying. This is not hard to understand.sheeeesh.
Reaction training, muscle memory, they complete the actions without thinking about them.
It happens surprisingly often. You read it about once a year.

In addition, the Brooklyn Center city manager has been fired and Police Chief Tim Gannon has resigned.
Seems simple enough, but we don’t know details. Add to that the heat of the moment, the perp's actions, and scores of “rules of engagement” directives flying through her head at the time and training, and a mistakes can always happen.
“She committed negligent homicide and any ‘normal’ person would do probably 5-10 years”
Out in 4-5 years maybe even less.
I’d bet her union would have picked up her legal bills, not sure now. I’d guess she’s on her own.
Counter to that is that she’s a police officer, an officer of the court, and should have known better than a random citizen. In fact, she was trained, repeatedly (or is expected to have), to prevent exactly this from happening.
I was distracted by my wife (just talking to me) and put OJ in my coffee instead of milk. Have been drinking coffee for 50 yrs. Nobody died!!
Ashli Babbit, say her name, Lord give her and family Comfort and Peace.
