Report: Biden nominates Chris Magnus to lead Customs and Border Protection

President Joe Biden will nominate Tucson police Chief Chris Magnus to lead Customs and Border Protection, according to a report in the New York Times on Monday, April 12.

Magnus’ nomination is one of six announced for roles in the Department of Homeland Security, the report says. Read the Times article HERE.

Magnus has publicly criticized the immigration policies of former President Donald Trump.

Tucson Mayor Regina Romero issued a statement in support of the nomination:

“I want to congratulate Chief Magnus for his nomination to serve as Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection,” said Mayor Regina Romero. “During his time in Tucson and throughout his career, Chief Magnus has developed a national reputation for his sensible, inclusive approach to policing that has always centered around community building.

Chief Magnus has always understood the importance of distinguishing the role of local law enforcement from federal immigration enforcement and how critical this is to protecting community trust. He has gained valuable experience serving as Police Chief of a major city here in the Borderlands.

As an established immigrant-welcoming community and in response to SB-1070, Mayor & Council directed a series of amendments to TPD’s General Orders that protect victims and witnesses of crimes from arbitrary immigration status inquires, prohibit stops and detentions based on “suspicions” of unlawful status, and other actions aimed at protecting the rights of our immigrant communities. I am grateful for the Chief’s leadership in implementing these reforms, as well as other efforts including streamlining TPD’s U-visa process and the creation of a new refugee liaison program.

He was an outspoken critic of Trump's immigration polices. He said it made his job harder as illegals would not report crimes in favor of not being deported . A Bay-Area Lib who believes in open borders is now in charge of Border Patrol? Wow, these men and women must be leaving in droves....

It’s as if the biden/HARRIS administration wants to bleep up the border crisis even worse than it currently is.

By accepting the job, he just made the career limiting move that will doom him to failure. There is no way to pick up a turd by its clean end, and he is about to find this out. When his tenure is over, he will look shi**y because he will have it all over himself.

If he’s like just about everything else that comes out of Tucson/Pima County democrat politics he has to suck in long strokes.

He’s such a great leader that police officers are leaving at a record rate to join the force in nearby towns. Not being replaced. Low pay, no support for job they have to do and general malaise in the moral and esprit. Baaaad choice but typical for O’Biden.

Yope,
Probably the worst choice Bidet could find anywhere.
Sanctuary City advocate, no policing police advocate.
No support for officers on the streets.
Tucson crime rate is terrible. He has not exactly caused it, it was bad before he took over, but he did absolutely nothing about it!
Tucson is basically unlivable City. Like Detroit, anybody who could afford to leave it, have already left!
Suburbs are OK.

If they’re not already the tidal wave will soon begin.

BP has always had a retention problem, going back decades. Lots of them used it as a stepping stone to get into the federal system and then go to another agency and become an Investigator(FBI, DEA, Secret Service, etc).

I’m betting under President Trump they were feeling good knowing that they had someone that supported them and helped them. Especially in changing the rules to combat the tsunami of human beings that come to our border.

Now, those that do stay aren’t going to lift a finger knowing they have civil service protection and have to do the bare minimum...which is show up for work. Others will retire, try to move to another agency or quit altogether.

Gonna be a bumpy ride in the US for quite some time and it’ll only get worse with President Harris and her VP, CornPop, running the show.

"And RINO senators will vote to confirm."

There has been close to zero pushback from GOP Senators for almost all of Sleepy Joe's nominations.

The Dems fought Trump on EVERYTHING and EVERYONE.

He destroyed the Tucson police department.

He doesn’t have the experience to lead/manage or deal with the legal or financial issues of that size of organization.

I live in the Tucson area and he has destroyed the police department.

Unless it’s a felony the police are so short staffed they can’t respond. The murder rate is up.

Basically, he was chosen because he’s Hispanic and a friend of Grijalva.

Watch him ruin Customs and Border Protection just like he did Tucson police.

I wonder if his propensity to hold that sign would be any different if he showed up in uniform at a riot with all of his friends and was hit with a brick, baseball bat, or back of human waste.

I wouldn't think so.

Leftism is so strong in some people it overrides commonsense and rational thinking.

That would be a feature, not a bug.

Kakistocracy

A kakistocracy is a system of government that is run by the worst, least qualified, and/or most unscrupulous citizens.

"It’s as if the biden/HARRIS administration wants to bleep up the border crisis even worse than it currently is."

Please understand: for them it's not a "crisis", it's the total success of their policies -- success beyond their wildest dreams.

They are giddy with joy and wish only to keep the good times rolling.
That's what this Magnus nomination is intended to do.
