I’m vaccinated, but I’m really not ready to leave my pandemic cocoon

As we lurch into pandemic year two, I find myself strangely reluctant to leave my pandemic cocoon. Not a week goes by without someone asking if I’ve gotten my “Get Out of Jail Free” card — the vaccine — but until recently, I’ve told almost no one that I got the shots last month. How could it be that now, with my escape route in sight, I shrink from the exit

Me too. Never stopped.....but I did like it when I was out and no one else was. I’ve flown twice and stopped at every casino I drove by in Oklahoma while there. I’ve been to Chumash casino (above Santa Barbara) multiple times and Vegas at least once a month. Our once a month bunco group has kept meeting, at my house to make it simpler. Hugged every old friend I’ve run into anywhere.....and never got the Covid.
The only difference this whole thing made to me is I realized I enjoyed it when everyone else was stuck in their house, afraid to come out, and I was out and about without all those people.

I grew up during the Vietnam war. Every night on TV we'd hear the number of all the soldiers deaths. It was very sad to hear it.

This is what I think of when I happen to watch the news waiting for the weather report.

In the Covidia we are given the number of "cases" and they make it sound like we are back in the Vietnam era where "cases" are deaths of people.

"Cases" are people who tested positive. whether or not they have symptoms, and from what I hear a lot of people are testing positive because they have the PCR test calibrated too high which means positives are guaranteed.

I hate it when people work overtime to play on my sympathy.

The local Fox affiliate losers publish a daily case count but of course fail to mention that the overwhelming majority of those cases have been healed many months ago. They get off on the 462,000 number.

Just to show you how fear-inducing the news is these days, I was watching something I wanted to see about a half hour before the news started. I left the room to find something for my project I was working on, which took me about 10 minutes. I came back in the den and to finish what I was working on and I started getting agitated. I looked up and saw the cause of my agitation - I had come back into the room during the beginning of the case count, the death count, the report from this hospital, and this celebrity has died of covid.

I am self-inoculated from the fear. That little event taught me exactly what is happening to people because of the news on TV.

How could it be? Psychological issues, that's how. The damage done to mental well-being over the course of 2020 and now 2021 by our federal and state governments has greatly exceeded anything done by the virus itself.
