Anti-Wolf sentiment over his COVID-19 rules hasn’t found a conspiracy it doesn’t like | Nancy Eshelman
Pennlive ^ | 9 April A.D. 2021 | Nancy Eshelman

My mind is overflowing like a pothole in the spring rain.

I need to talk about Gov. Tom Wolf. Actually, I need to talk to him.

Dear Governor,

As I’ve noted here before, I admire the way you’ve handled this whole COVID thing. It came at you like a fastball in a Major League ballpark, except play began without rules. So, you made some.

What astounds me is that after all these innings, a whole lot of the crowd resents them. One wrote that your game plan “is to make just living difficult.”

Why anyone would think a governor would aim to shut down businesses and snatch jobs from people who pay taxes is beyond my ability to comprehend. Some suggest it has something to do with socialism, while others call you a dictator or Adolf Wolf, I’m sorry to say.

I don’t know how much time you have to peruse the Internet, so I’ll share some of what I’ve seen floating around just so you know what the opposition is pitching.

“Wolf is great at two things. Shutting down businesses and putting people out of work.”

“Wolf luvs the drama and he is not honest at all, especially about hospitals. More scare tactics.”

“PA will do whatever the Biden administration wants to stay on the gravy train. Big bucks for states who lock down their citizens.”

Apparently, according to the anti-Wolf folks, a major conspiracy exists between state government (you) and the media. You, Governor, for reasons they haven’t explained, want to close everything. We, the media, play COVID on the front pages and highlight it on newscasts to exaggerate its devastation.

As one guy wrote, “This is all BS, enough of the nonsense. Wake up people; they have screwed up our lives for a year and they are lying to you and have been for over a year now.”

Or this: “Any person with half an intellect knows they are being played by this virus.”

Since I can’t quite understand why these folks believe in a plot to shut down businesses, churches, schools, etc. I asked one of them. She replied, “Just ask China.”

I’m unsure what that meant. Maybe it’s because, as a member of the media, I’m participating in the conspiracy designed to make people wear masks and practice social distancing. Devious as we are, we are also anti-Christian and anti-fun.

Right before Easter, I read the following: “Sure, there is a Christian holiday coming up, so let’s start the hysteria about gathering and celebrating with family.”

And this: “Well, you know, graduation, prom, etc. are coming up. They need to stop the kids from celebrating.”

Some are defiant. “Of course, just in time to shut everyone down for summer. Which will not happen. I am done with you and your virus. I plan to enjoy my summer. And if that means spending my money in states other than PA, so be it.”

Others are sarcastic. “Daddy will put us back in timeout.”

And some seem to think the virus’ toll doesn’t merit restrictions. “There are approximately 13 million people in PA and less than 2,000 are currently hospitalized. Does make you question why this continues to be front-page news?”

One called it “COVID, the pandemic that wasn’t. Pandemic of mentally weak germaphobes.”

As a result of their belief in the conspiracy, a bunch of these folks have no intention of being vaccinated. One wrote, “Still refuse to have that vaccine. Have been around COVID-positive patients for a year now. It is nothing like the media makes it out to be. Still have not had COVID. Just use common since.” (I’m thinking he meant sense.)

Speaking of misspellings and sense, I want to be clear that I’ve edited many of the comments I’ve shared for grammar, spelling and punctuation. But before I sign off, I’d like to display two in their unedited versions.

“Don’t believe half what u hear about this virse. they use that to control u. make u stay home wear masks and put businesses out of business. wake up.”

“Let’s take away what they can do and to top it off they fine them typical dems trying to ruin people lively hood”

Sigh. You know, Governor, maybe it is time to hustle the kids back to school.

Sincerely,

NANCY ESHELMAN: columnist1@verizon.net

I don’t want to be an Art Bell disciple but have you noticed every time numbers go down there are spikes? There are upward trends? There are more deaths?

I mean if this seems all the vaccinations, natural immunity, acquired immunity etc should be irreversible on the downward side.

Nope?

I mean it’s like something out of a Tom Clancy book where agents are putting aerosol cans in gathering areas spraying COVID into the air. Not saying that’s the case but this “Pandemic” seems to be awfully manageable and capable of being spiked when needed.

Umm, because that’s exactly what they keep doing, over and over again, and insisting is “the new normal” we had just better get used to forever?

Nancy is being facetious. There is no medical rhyme or reason with the limits the Governor has imposed on the State’s citizens. One reason why Democrat leaders do not care about shutting down small businesses is small business owners are not who they cater to. They cater to people without citizenship, and without jobs. They cater to big business, who have not been harmed like the middle class entrepreneurs have been.

Afraid Nancy Eshelman has limited the explanations she is considering to just rational ones that are justifiable and reasonable. But the urge to see oneself as the savior of the world on the side of the angels exercising great power over the lives of others in the name of some exaggerated “crisis” type of excuse is a common pattern in human behavior, that people quite properly associate with totalitarians and socialists. There is no need for a “conspiracy” for specific reasons...as long as one shares the myopic “vision of the anointed” and can feel oneself superior to those that do not share it (like Nancy Eshelman feels superior to those she paints as crazy).

Every weekend my rural area doubles in population because this is a recreational area and many people from St Louis come down and stay on property they own or in a RV resort. Thousands and thousands of them and they don’t wear masks and they shop in our stores. For several months, St Louis accounted for well over 95% of MO cases and deaths. During those same months, we had not one case of this highly contagious virus.

How’s that work?

FedGov pays $$$$$ per covid case. The early and often election fraud types in the blue cities have no problem lying and calling everything covid.

Occam’$ razor.

This 500k US covid deaths is BS. Of covid = with covid. Everything’s covid. Follow the money. In 2020, there was a bonus to explosive fauxvid numbers. It made Trump look bad.

I don’t rely hatred of Wolf on conspiracy. He’s just an absolute moron and tool, and that’s the most polite thing I can say about him.
