Union leader Randi Weingarten criticized Jews as "part of the ownership class" dedicated to denying opportunities to others in an interview released on Friday.
Weingarten—who is herself Jewish and draws a six-figure salary as head of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT)—took aim at American Jews in an interview with the Jerusalem Post. When asked about parents critical of the AFT's resistance to school reopening, Weingarten took aim squarely at Jewish critics.
"American Jews are now part of the ownership class," Weingarten said. "Jews were immigrants from somewhere else. And they needed the right to have public education. And they needed power to have enough income and wealth for their families that they could put their kids through college and their kids could do better than they have done."
"What I hear when I hear that question is that those who are in the ownership class now want to take that ladder of opportunity away from those who do not have it," she said.
Weingarten's comments come after months of political conflict about whether to reopen school system as vaccinations ramp up and the coronavirus crisis recedes.
A major Jewish advocacy group ripped Weingarten for being "inaccurate and dangerous" in her generalizations about the Jewish community. StandWithUs, a pro-Israel advocacy organization, said the union boss was "out of touch" with the experience of Jewish students and came close to trafficking in anti-Semitism.

The pathology of self loathing is bizarre and complex. Yet it is not unusual for such people to achieve positions of influence and power to the detriment of society and the nation.
I don’t even get the point she was trying to make. What does her assertion about Jews have to do with not opening schools?
That's one of the most monumentally stupid quotes of the year. Desperately poor immigrant Jews cultivated strong families and raised their kids to work hard in school, have an achievement orientation, adopt a long term perspective, avoid the self-destructive vices, etc. And now the left deems it racist to suggest that this formula is relevant to other minority groups seeking to rise.
Wholly aside from the self-hating issue, how is demanding public schools be opened denying opportunities to the underclasses?
Seems quite the opposite. In fact, she acknowledged that education is part of the success story of the Jewish people in the USA.
That’s a double sells-delusion. And some of you doubt the middle-east origin of us Ashkenazi. This amazing mental defect proves it.

What does “Jewish the ownership class” (whatever that is) have to do with re-opening the schools - and where are her examples of “Jews” trying to keeping the schools closed?
She’s trying to deflect off of her failed leadership.
Weingarten is a flaming lesbian who did NOTHING for the teachers while she was head of the UFT. She was responsible for the worst contract ever which took away a lot of protections for teachers, lousy raises, etc. She was only in a classroom for a total of 6 months—that’s her extent of pedagogical experience. The UFT was only a stepping stone for her to gain the presidency of the AFT. What she really wanted was to be in Hillary’s cabinet as secretary of education. This woman is disgusting on so many levels, as well as being a self-hating Jew. She’ll jump aboard any slogan campaign—”woke”, “broke”, “soak”, “croak”—if she thinks she can use it to lever herself up even higher.
So, opening schools gives children the unfair privilege of ...an education.

Jews who have money send their kids to Private Schools, like Catholics prefer Jewish based schools. Middle class will scrimp and save to do so.

If I am reading her article correctly, she is implying that the Jews in America just recently rose to the “owner” status. If so, then she needs to take a close look at Jewish American history. The Jews have always excelled at being good merchants. My dad was born in 1905 in a very small very rural town in the south. Jews owned stores in that town at that time. He talked about them. I was born in 1939 in another small rural town in the south supported almost entirely by agriculture. The best department store in the town was owned by Jews. Always delivered quality at a good price, thus no one was able to challenge their dominance. There were several other Jews that owned stores in the town also. So, regardless of what the lesbian says, Jews have been “owners” in America for almost as long as there has been an America. She does not know of what she speaks.
Weingarten’s assertion about Jews and opening schools is aimed at deflection. The Union has come under severe criticism for refusing to educate our children. Just last week the criticism elevated when it was discovered that the same teachers who refuse to open schools for American students are teaching illegals in face to face settings. With all this bad publicity, it was necessary to find a scapegoat. As the list of acceptable targets shrinks, Jews are always readily available to be disparaged with the old saw of their wealth. That Weingarten is Jewish is irrelevant. Her religion is Leftism.
But the politically involved Jewish community remains hard-core supporters of democrat - go figure...
I read this earlier, and I am also confused about the connection between Jews and schools opening. Hoping some comments here can enlighten me.
