Wearing a face mask covering the nose and mouth – previously thought to be the necessary equipment for bank robbers – has proven a boon in reducing COViD-19 infection. Now, researchers from the Galilee Medical Center and the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine of Bar-Ilan University (BIU) in Ramat Gan (near Tel Aviv) have found that masks can protect people who suffer from seasonal allergies
Studying how much of a difference wearing a mask could make for allergy sufferers with mild, moderate, and severe symptoms, they found that this practice can reduce the symptoms in some people. In the US alone, over 19 million American adults suffer from seasonal allergies
The researchers collected data from 215 nurses who wore surgical masks or N95 masks over a two-week period. The survey was distributed on April 5, 2020, for two weeks during the early spring in Israel where seasonal allergens are widely dispersed. This period also corresponds to when initial social distancing and quarantine regulations were implemented in Israel.
Among 44 of the nurses who had severe allergy symptoms, nearly two-fifths suffered from less sneezing, runny nose and stuffy nose when they wore either of the two masks. Among the 91 nurses with moderate symptoms, 30% improved when they wore a surgical mask and 40% improved when they wore an N95 mask. Forty-three (about 54%) of the 80 nurses who had mild allergy symptoms felt their symptoms improved while wearing either of the two masks.

My wife and I have bad pollen allergies. We noted precisely the same effect once we started using masks. Allergy symptoms ARE reduced noticeably.
Umm, nope. It ascorbates mine; sinus’ really get bad/swollen wearing a mask.
Why is he holding up a carrot?
That’s because pollen is a big particle. Viruses not so much. People with allergies can decide if a mask is worth it. Personally I’d rather breathe fresh air abs take an antihistamine but ymmv
To deliver a stick.
People with respiratory allergies have been using masks for a long time. Woodworkers, yard workers, painters, you name it.
That doesn’t take much research.
Mask, smasks. Everyone should be walking around in haz-mat suits all day, every day, everywhere.
Looks like he’s in mid sneeze.
You can reduce the risk of almost everything if your just live you life secluded in your closet.
I’ll choose not to do so.
They keep your face warm when the wind blows too! Dr. Fauci told me that!
I agree. I am absolutely an anti-mask mandate advocate. But I did wear one last fall field mowing. After 3hrs of mowing with a mask I was fine. Without, I’d need to take Benadryl and lay down the rest of the day with itchy, water eyes.
Well, DUHHHH, who knew that pollen and dust particles are larger than COVID-19 viruses and are caught by masks that don’t catch the virus.
I’ll stick to Allegra.
I’m with you. I take my Flonase and antihistamines on an as needed basis. I like to breathe fresh air, pollen or not.
I do wear an eye mask at night and it helps my allergies to my cats. I used to wake up with itchy eyes, and that has largely been alleviated with the eye mask.
I wonder what it does for pneumonia (filthy, damp, warm masks you’re breathing through)?
How many people replace their mask every 10 minutes with a clean dry one?
Oh wait, that conversation will come in a few years, once the wonders of compliance and group think have worn off, and the science of gay genes, global warming and ozone holes will tell us about how breathing through a filthy rag can cause other problems.
There is no free lunch- anywhere.
Posting great classic Johnny Cash salute....
Now, is that any way to show we’re docile little Deplorables?
How can the Left control us if we have attitudes like that?/s
In foreign countries like Japan China Korea and sometimes Europe lots of people have been wearing masks for years.
So during the flu season, my hubby. the kids. and I have been wearing masks in petri dishes like airplanes and the New York subway.
Ummm, not exactly rocket science. Good for those with allergies! Wear a mask, and let us healthy folk go free!
