Matt Gaetz names former DOJ official he says tried to extort his family for $25 million

David McGee, an attorney with Beggs & Lane, is the man the Florida Republican named during an appearance Tuesday evening on Tucker Carlson's Fox News show in which he responded to reports that he is under federal investigation over a former relationship.

McGee served for six years as the first assistant at the U.S. Attorney’s Office and for seven years as the lead attorney for a Justice Department's Organized Crime Task Force, according to his biography on the website of his law firm, which is based in Pensacola, Florida.

The New York Times reported Gaetz, 38, is being looked at as part of a broader investigation into local Florida official Joel Greenberg, a political ally who was indicted last summer on an array of charges, including sex trafficking of a minor and financially supporting people in exchange for sex, at least one of whom was an underage girl.

Investigators are said to be examining whether Gaetz had a sexual relationship two years ago with a girl believed to have been 17 at the time and paid her to travel with him. Specifically authorities are trying to determine whether he violated federal sex trafficking laws.

Gaetz told Carlson that the FBI, alongside the Department of Justice, had his father wear a wire to eavesdrop on conversations between him and McGee, who the lawmaker alleged was trying to receive $25 million in exchange for making the allegations disappear. The Florida Republican said his father was set to catch McGee on Wednesday in the act demanding "4.5 million" as a "down payment" on the "bribe," adding further that the New York Times leak hampered the investigation.

Heads up on this David McGee... I wonder if he really was a ‘friend’ of Levinson or just persuaded Levinson’s family that he was an old FBI friend in order to contain the family and keep the hostage situation buried while the Obama admin pursued the Iran Deal :

Iran to pay $1.46 billion judgement for hostage, torture of former FBI agent in 2007

A record-breaking ruling for the family of Bob Levinson, a former FBI Agent who vanished while in Iran 13-years ago. Thursday, a U.S. judge ruled Iran must pay Levinson’s family $1.46 billion, the largest judgement for a case of this kind... Levinson disappeared in 2007 while working as a CIA contractor in Iran. His family immediately called on (Atty. David) McGee, who was Levinson’s friend, to help bring him home... Earlier this year, Levinson’s family announced they were convinced the husband and father of seven was dead. In a statement, they said the judgement was the “the first step in...

FLASHBACK: Former FBI Agent Speaks Out: ‘I Was Not Protected (McCabe Victim Robyn Gritz)
3/24/2018, 10:15:46 AM · by Kid Shelleen · 13 replies
NPR ^ | 04/15/2015 | Carrie Johnson, Evie Stone
Robyn Gritz spent 16 years at the FBI, where she investigated a series of major national security threats. But she says she got crosswise with her supervisors, who pushed her out and yanked her security clearance. For the first time, she’s speaking out about her situation, warning about how the bureau treats women and the effects of a decade of fighting terrorism. —SNIP— Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who led the Defense Intelligence Agency, worked closely with Gritz to find terrorists overseas. He says it’s a shame the FBI let go of someone with years of top national security experience.

He did not have a contract with CIA, but wanted one. He went to Iran as a tourist hoping to use contacts there to position himself into the intel stream.
..........
The Iranian Guards, the IRGC, largely self-finance by controlling the smuggling of drugs from Afghanistan to Iran to Turkey and Russia, and also cigarettes, very lucrative.
...........
It would be helpful to understand that money stream better. Unfortunately a meetup on Kish Island turned into a trap, he got sold out.
.............
The IRGC kept it all from the government of Iran, for deniability. He played a dangerous game, the Russian mob was onto him the whole time.

David McGee’s law firm, Beggs and Lane:

Judge orders damages of nearly $1.5 billion for family of ...

Oct 04, 2020 · McGee’s law firm, Beggs & Lane of Pensacola, has represented the family pro bono for 13 years. Collecting damages from Iran could take years since it will likely involve seizing assets in countries

And during that 13 years I suspect the law firm pretty much kept the family quiet and kept Levinson’s plight out of the news while John Kerry and Hillary Clinton pursued the Iran Deal [and in Hillary’s case took Russian money] .

Actually, there is something “off” about the attorney David McGee. McGee claims to be a friend of missing and presumed dead Robert Levinson, who disappeared after allegedly meeting with Dawud Salahuddin on Iran’s Kish Island in March 2007.

“I don’t think it’s a coincidence that tonight — somehow — the New York Times is leaking this information, smearing me and ruining the investigation that would likely result in one of the former colleagues of the current DOJ being brought to justice for trying to extort me and my family.”

Gaetz also claimed McGee wasn’t working alone, and the group said they had “connections” within the Biden White House

Gaetz has fought harder for Trump than Trump did. This is the payback the DOJ is giving him.

.

BINGO and ANY FReeper on here even suggesting this man is “weird” or “something not right” about him WITH ZERO proof except for some source from the NYT should be banned.

Seriously. Our so-called side are a bunch of weak ass folding chairs ready to throw anyone under the bus.

Can you imagine not even questioning this after what we’ve seen play out the last five years????!!!

In the end we shall see, but until there is concrete proof then I’m siding with Gaetz.

Former DoJ prosecutor and current Redstate contributor who uses the nom de plume 'Shipwreckedcrew' offers these comments...

The NYT story on Rep. Gaetz doesn't make sense, most specifically the timeline. This is not a complicated charge to present or prove. Whether the girl was 17 is a matter of impirical [sic] proof. Whether they traveled together outside Florida is a matter of documentary proof.

If she was 17, and they did travel, the only reason to hold off as long as they have is because they don't have a cooperative victim. The play for $25 million may have been a suggestion that the victim is considering being cooperative, but might be made to reconsider.

But Gaetz's statement is a pretty bold play, and I can't comprehend him doing so without something solid that she was 18 or older at the time. There is no reason for DOJ/FBI to have held off charging him as long as this has been open if they could make it stick.

I think he gets to one of the more peculiar elements of the entire story. The girl was either 17 or she wasn't. Even our FBI with all its problems can easily determine someone's actual birth date. If she was 17 and she's a cooperative witness, then it's an easy case to make particularly if she really did travel with him across state lines. If she wasn't 17, then the fact that the FBI is still (apparently) investigating Gaetz is HUGELY suspect and invites (deservedly) all kinds of questions about the propriety and motives of the investigations itself.

Of course, as some others have pointed out, if she had already reached the age of majority when the relationship with Gaetz began, what would be the premise of the alleged blackmail? IOW, who cares if she starts cooperating with the FBI if she was 18 when she started traveling with Gaetz? No one, and certainly not caring enough to pay $4.5M in an initial 'down-payment.'

According to you, by my providing air fair and hotel accommodation for my daughter to visit me in Hawaii I would possibly be accused of incest?

You do realize you're making an apples to oranges comparison, right?

Your comprehension is very weak. He stated there is no 17 year old. He has provided meals and flights for dates who are of legal age.

Your failure to look at both sides of this issue demonstrate more about you than it does about me.

Why do you think he is hiding something and not telling the “full truth”?

Precisely because of the two quotes I posted that he said.
