time for a national revival - they usually start after a national disaster when people realize there is no where else to go for help but to God. Biden may well be the national disaster!!!
remember that Christian churches are not an invention of man. Christ himself ordained the church. No matter how much his people screw it up, it is Christ’s and it has a purpose. Study the 2nd chapter of the Acts of the Apostles for informative as to how it is intended to be.
Preach the Good News
Or face empty pews.
“Churches must preach the Bible, and not some ‘woke’ versions or they’ll die.”
Sadly, THIS has been a big reason for the death spiral. So many churches, so dependent on money, change their doctrine to bring in more paying customers.
No mention of the ban on church attendance over the last year.
I quote this quite often...
“What would things look like if Satan really took control of a city? Over a half century ago, Presbyterian minister Donald Grey Barnhouse offered his own scenario in his weekly sermon that was also broadcast nationwide on CBS radio. Barnhouse speculated that if Satan took over Philadelphia, all of the bars would be closed, pornography banished, and pristine streets would be filled with tidy pedestrians who smiled at each other. There would be no swearing. The children would say, “Yes, sir” and “No, ma’am,” and the churches would be full every Sunday . . . where Christ is not preached.”
Matthew 25:31-46
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory,
and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.
32 Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate
people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33 And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left.
34 Then the King will say to those on his right,
‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father,
inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me,
I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’
...
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire
prepared for the devil and his angels.
42 For I was hungry and you gave me no food,
I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,
43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me,
sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’
...
46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
I have to attend a Monday meeting with a virulent liberal Dim - she’s like the joke about vegans (How do you know she’s liberal? She’ll tell you within 5 minutes.). And I’ve seen her car stickers, ha.
Today while the rest of us brought up how Easter is fast approaching, she bragged about how “It’s just another day to me!!” She’s so bitter; I don’t understand her need to say that other than attention-seeking or that she was...TRIGGERED!
How about teaching morals?
What? and alienate the freaks? And lose their contributions?
Ohhh nooo.
Go broke.
She’s a Christian and the central event of Christianity, Salvation
Through Faith, is something that is ho-hum to her?
You may have a spy in your midst.
On paper I’m still a member of my protestant church. A few years back the long time minister retired. He was a liberal, but it never got into his sermons. You cold even had a respectful conversation about politics.
They went thru a few temporary ministers before the new permanent one. All of a sudden the FB page is filled with BLM, StopAsianHate, etc. type posts, with links to Vox, The Atlantic, etc.
Like you said, I just left and don’t see myself going back.
Despite the state permitting in-person worship since Jun 2020 ish, they resumed for a while and stopped in mid-Dec and plan to resume mid-late April. However, no call and response or singing permitted. Also, no loitering or socialization outside after the service ends. Just go home and join the Zoom social hour.
They have been struggling for years. Back in the mid-late 2000s they had two services, approx 40 for the short and to the point early service and 100-125 for the longer family service, with ~30 kids for Sunday school. They had 10-25 new members from HS students joining and 3-8 new families join 3-4 times a year. In 2019 they had 4 new HS confirmaands and 5 new family’s join. Now the have once service with maybe 50-75 people on a good day.
They have to be struggling as they spent millions in renovations/expansion after a fire several years back and haven’t come close to utilizing that new space.
Church Mutual Insurance has pretty much dictated COVID restrictions/reopenings across the specturm.
More fear driven than most State governors.
0% of the churches in my Catholic Diocese have shut down over the last 20 years
I’m thinking that 75% was a huge exaggeration!
‘75% of the chuches in our Catholic Diocese have shut down over the last 20 years.’
doubtless many businesses-schools, restaurants, retailers-have failed as well in your area, as the elderly pass away and the younger generation leaves...
many towns in Schuykill County, PA are classic examples of the death spiral...
‘I’m thinking that 75% was a huge exaggeration!’
no, it’s no exaggeration, depending on the area...some places are hemorraging population...
There are several traditional/conservative Parishes that are booming. Young families traveling 25 miles or more to attend Mass. St. Patrick’s in downtown Columbus, Ohio is a great example.
But the real test is the shortage of Priests and vocations. Some Diocese in the Midwest now have one Priest covering 3 Parishes. That can’t last.
I disagree. They are rabid adherents of the Church of Woke, complete with the religious trappings of shunning (canceling), confession and atonement (groveling apology), and tithing (donations to BLM).
We’ve been unhappy with the ongoing leftward tilt of our church for some time. It’s been closed due to COVID and then a preventable structural problem. The new rector started a little over a year ago. He checks off all the ‘woke’ boxes, and he’s also a weak leader. We’re not interested in zoom church. We won’t be supporting it financially, and we’re looking elsewhere. My only hesitation is that I like a few of the members of my women’s circle and will miss that. One of our sons was baptized there and we have family memories there, but the changes have just been of the type to drive us away. We’ve gotten out of the habit of attending now, but if we find a suitable congregation we’ll consider returning to it.
