Romney wins JFK 'profile in courage' award for impeachment vote

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) is receiving a profile in courage award from the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation for his “historic vote” to impeach then-President Trump during his first impeachment trial last year, the foundation announced on Friday.

“Senator Romney‘s commitment to our Constitution makes him a worthy successor to the senators who inspired my father to write 'Profiles in Courage,'” former Ambassador Caroline Kennedy said in a statement. “He reminds us that our Democracy depends on the courage, conscience and character of our elected officials.”

Romney was the sole Republican senator to vote to impeach Trump last February on a charge of abusing his power over the former president’s effort to press Ukraine to investigate now-President Biden and his son Hunter Biden's dealings in Ukraine. In doing so, Romney made history: He became the first U.S. senator to vote to convict a president of his own party on an impeachment charge.

Romney then joined six other GOP senators in February in voting to impeach Trump, after he left office, over his role in the Jan. 6 mob attack at the Capitol.

Romney, who drew consistent ire from Trump for his vote, in a statement Friday invoked his father, who the GOP senator said “did what was right regardless of consequence.”

“I aspire to his example, though I have failed from time to time. We must subordinate our political fortunes to the causes of freedom, equal opportunity and truth, particularly as they are under assault here and abroad,” Romney, a former governor of Massachusetts, said.

The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, named after the 35th U.S. president, established the award in 1989 to honor his commitment to public service. It is presented each year to mark Kennedy’s birthday on May 29. The award is given to public servants who the foundation judges have demonstrated “politically courageous leadership.”

Romney is worse than a dog faced pony soldier.
He is a spineless lump, dressed in funny underwear, sulking over realizing the fact that he is a born loser.
Utah must end his political career.

You can pick whichever past President you want as your hero. I don’t care.

Just know that modern history is not merit based - it is purely partisan. The difference between the way “history” remembers Nixon and the way “history” remembers Kennedy is entirely based on party affiliation.

The ones doing the “remembering” are Leftist partisan hacks.

The reason I put “history” in quotes is because yesterday’s fake news becomes today’s fake history. It’s all produced by the same Leftist misinformation and propaganda machine - just a different time frame.

JFK was a better man than Romney will ever be. And given all Jack’s problems, that says a lot about Romney. Really hate that idiot.

Concur in your assessment of JFK; he was not one of ten best presidents as biased historians will say, but he was definitely in the teens. He fought against communism, appointed Byron White (a conservative) to the Supreme Court, and would not go along with a lot of the progressives’ plans while in office. He and Nixon came to Congress together and remained good friends even after the 1960 election until the Bay of Pigs, when JFK probably rightly felt betrayed by the Deep State. I have no use for his youngest brother but he wasn’t him.

I forgot that Reagan’s Biggest Mistake, HW Bush, received the Profiles in Courage, for two-facedly rejecting his “Read My Lips, No New Taxes” pledge he had proclaimed at the convention without the slightest hint of remorse. Typical of him and his dimwit son. I think John McCain got and deserved this “award” as well.

Lol. Never said he was my hero. But he was a hero. A bigger one than you no doubt.

“Never said he was my hero. But he was a hero.”

I guess it’s sacrilege to say otherwise

The real JFK didn’t much care for “secret societies” either. Romney is involved in more than one.

What I think happened was that they give out two awards and got them mixed up. Romney was supposed to get the “Crapweasel of the Year Award.”
