BTW. Try not to include, Irish, Scotch, or Welsh groups in this. They’re their own categories.
The Hollies - “Stop Stop Stop”
One of the few songs ever with a punchline.

Thanks, jy8z, for the tunes for the troops. ((HUGS))
That one took me back a long ways.
No, I did not know all that before. Interesting!
One of the reasons I’ve always loved that song (Jennifer) is because it was one of very few Top 40 popular music songs to use Oboes and I think Clarinets in it’s chorus.
Some of Elton John’s early work caught my ear as well.
“Your Song” background musicians made great use of a Harp.
Thanks, Southside_Chicago_Republican, for the tunes for our troops. ((HUGS))
Hi, Kathy. Happy Purim!
Anything by the Who grabs me.
The Unicorn Song, by The Irish Rovers. 1965
“You’ll see green alligators and long necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees...”

I, too, miss Rush. He sure did fight the good fight.
What’s the punchline?
"Oh! Darling" - The Beatles
"Good Night" - The Beatles
Another good one from XTC
The Everyday Story of Smalltown

They’re setting up the whole song like she’s his girl when the final line reveals us that he’s just an obsessive stalker.
“Heavy hand upon my collar
Throws me in the street”
Thanks, DLfromthedesert, for the tune for the troops. ((HUGS))
Good evening, luvie, and thanks for the British tunes for the troops. ((HUGS))
