Every House Democrat signs on to sweeping HR 1 bill, GOP argues it would 'undermine' election integrity

All House Democrats signed onto a sweeping election reform bill Monday that they claim will expand voting rights and "clean up corruption" in politics -- as Republicans rip it as a "federal government takeover" and accuse Democrats of trying to change election rules to benefit themselves.

Democracy Reform Task Force Chair Rep. John Sarbanes, D-Md., announced Monday that all House Democrats co-sponsored the legislation — H.R. 1, the For the People Act of 2021.

"House Democrats are united in our steadfast commitment to advance transformational anti-corruption and clean election reforms by swiftly passing H.R. 1," Sarbanes said in a statement Monday.

"Our historic reform effort will end decades of dysfunction in Washington, return power to the people and build a more just, equitable and prosperous country for all Americans," he said.

The bill is expected to be considered on the House floor during the first week of March. Republicans have railed against the bill during previous attempts to bring the legislation to a vote, arguing it would give the federal government more power in deciding the people’s representation.

According to Democrats, the bill would "improve access to the ballot box," by creating an automatic voter registration across the country, and by ensuring that individuals who have completed felony sentences have their full voting rights restored. The bill will also expand early voting and enhance absentee voting by simplifying voting by mail.

The bill also commits Congress to deliver "full congressional voting rights and self-government for the residents of the District of Columbia, which only statehood can provide," prohibits voter roll purges and "ends partisan gerrymandering to prevent politicians from picking their voters."

Yes some of the previsions remove the rights from the states to conduct their elections. Now that SCOTUS is fully on board with Xiden fake administration. Who's going to stop them?

Now the republican controlled states can completely disregard any federal law. Let the dems sue them “no standing”

Were republicans so stupid to think that if they signed off on the theft of the election because they hate Trump too that things would go back to the old uniparty boys club? Thei legitimized election theft and now the dems want to codify it as law so they can decide who wins every election going forward, and NOW the GOP is worried about mail in voting all of a sudden?

I really hate these buffoons what have such contempt for people like us that they sign off on canceling our votes in one election only to bitch that they might lose their own election if our votes keep getting cancelled in the next one.

-- Message to republicans: No mail in voting or we don't vote. They better get in this fight. --

Reply from Br'er GOP, "Don't throw us in that briar patch."

The professional GOP politicians don't really want your vote or support. They prefer to be and are designed to be controlled minority opposition in our fake self-government.

I don’t see this passing the Senate. It will take 60 votes to get past a filibuster, and the dems don’t have 51 votes to do that. Were it to pass, It would face an immediate challenge in the courts, at least to the extent it tries to take the states out of the Presidential election game.

If DC statehood were a good idea, it would have passed years ago - when the dems had 60 votes in the Senate. It’s a stupid idea, which would give the First Family, and the other few living in the Federal conclave, 3 electoral votes.

It would not undermine election integrity. the “undermining” is already done. It would codify a top down institutionalization of the fraudulence that will guarantee a One Party Communist/Democrat State.

<>Really? Do tell. Maybe you shouldn’t have joined in with them to steal the election from President Trump.<>

Yeah, it’s why I changed my almost 50 year GOP registration to unaffiliated.

It is also why I don’t see the point in voting in federal elections. The Party is in charge and they’ll never let go. We had a good run, but the republic is over.

Read the entire bill— the title is a LIE.
This is not the election law in ANY other country in the world, and certainly not in the EU.

There can be one single lonely Democrat in the entire Congress, and he/she will fight to the death to stop a Republican's agenda or legislation. He/She will use every parliamentary trick or procedural hold in the book.

But when the roles are reversed, Republicans do a lot of pissing and screaming but in the end will either vote for it or introduce some slightly-less liberal version of the bill, and then beat their chests about how they stopped the Democrats.

Just pass whatever Biden or his controllers want to pass, I really don't care anymore.

And our doesn’t matter anyway because even if every single R votes against, it will still pass (so probably every single R will vote against)
