Pope Francis Removes Conservative African Cardinal From Vatican Post

ROME— Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Cardinal Robert Sarah as head of the Vatican’s office for liturgy, removing an outspoken conservative and possible future pope from the ranks of Vatican leadership.

The Holy See Press Office announced Saturday that Cardinal Sarah had stepped down. No successor has been named.

The cardinal submitted his resignation as required by church law when he turned 75 on June 15 of last year. But the pope frequently lets cardinals serve two or three years past that age, though not past 80. Last June, the cardinal wrote on Twitter: “For my part, I am happy to continue my work” at the Vatican.

In accepting Cardinal Sarah’s resignation, the pope has removed a subordinate out of step with his approach to liturgy, homosexuality and relations with the Muslim world. The cardinal is a hero to many conservative Catholics, some of whom see him as a future pontiff. He will still be able to vote in a conclave to elect a pope until he turns 80.

Cardinal Sarah is a very sincere man of God. He says it like it is. He should have become pope instead of the current imposter.

The current occupant of the seat of Peter purged him for not thinking in the bergoglio way. Very bad. Now Sarah can never become pope.

I don’t think Frankie will step down, I think he will be kicked into the Pit of Hell by Jesus Christ Himself.

Short of Divine intervention, it doesn’t look like the men who voted Bergoglio in would vote for a conservative Pope any time soon.

It’s rarely accepted this quickly, and his doing so was widely perceived as getting rid of an enemy. Btw, you should see the nasty tweets and remarks about Cdl Sarah from the liberals, such as the homosexualist James Martín, SJ. They’re congratulating Bergoglio on getting rid of him.

For all you Catholics, I love to shop on those one day end of season sales where all the summer or winter clothing is getting blown out at 70-80-90% off. My standard joke with the cashier is:

“My philosophy is you live your life, and at the end, go up to the pearly gates. St. Peter is waiting for you. He looks you straight in the eye and asks: “Did you commit the unpardonable sin?” I want to live my life so I can honestly reply back to him: “No, I never did pay full retail.”

Thanks for the clarification.

Now, if we could just get this Pope to abide by that rule.

Bishops don’t have a rule. I wish Francis would retire soon.

Francis the Fake is not the real Pope

Okay, then none of them do?

Thanks for the mention.

I join you in wishing Francis would retire. Leftists never
do want to stand down from power though.

I’m not Catholic, but my observations lead me to believe he
isn’t doing the church any favors.

The Roman Catholic Church has had a few appallingly bad Popes, and it’s still alive. We’ll survive Francis and his bad practices.

Out of step with Bergoglio’s approach to homosexuality.
Which is what? Personally, I’d rather homosexuals get civil unions, rather than miraged (married).

Now Sarah can never become pope.

No prohibition against it as understand it. I think Sarah could get it in a backlash.

I believe there are many that see him as truly worthy of the office.

The actual name of the office is the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, CDW for short.

My mistake. Popes don’t have retirement ages, but bishops and cardinals have recommended retirement age of 75.

Regarding Francis. Well, theologically he is off, and thanks to God’s grace he isn’t and hasn’t made any dogma changes.

But we’ve had worse Popes. For me the most important High priest is the one I meet each time in the Eucharist.

He is the real Pope, whether we like it or not. He is also going to be gone eventually. Our High priest remains as always, Jesus, as we meet Him each Eucharist.

e is removed/retired from his post. He did not have his Cardinal robes taken from him. I think the article said Cardinals retire at 80.

Marchmain :" The actual name of the office is the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments,

Thank you for that information !
I still prefer the Latin Mass, when available.
And yes, I know exactly what is being said, even though it is in Latin,
after having been raised for 13 years in Catholic education.
The Mass, when said in Latin, extends the universality of Mother Church,
and makes the Mass less temporal, banal, and mundane.
