What Exactly Is Ted Cruz Supposed To Do About A Snowstorm In His Home State?
Daily Wire ^ | February 19 2021 | Joseph Curl

Senators make laws, provide for the common defense, they don't shovel snow or repair power grids

Here’s what a U.S. senator does: Make laws, authorize and appropriate federal funds, provide for the common defense and the general welfare, regulate commerce among the states and with foreign nations, declare war and maintain and regulate the military, impeach federal officers including the president, advise and consent to treaties and appointments of judges and federal officials.

Cruz was seen boarding a plane and, with social media, the photos quickly went viral. What followed was the dumbest “scandal” ever.

The New York Times did some quality investigative reporting and penned a piece headlined: “Ted Cruz’s Cancún Trip: Family Texts Detail His Political Blunder.”

Text messages sent from Ms. Cruz to friends and Houston neighbors on Wednesday revealed a hastily planned trip. Their house was “FREEZING,” as Ms. Cruz put it — and she proposed a getaway until Sunday. Ms. Cruz invited others to join them at the Ritz-Carlton in Cancún, where they had stayed “many times,” noting the room price this week ($309 per night) and its good security. The text messages were provided to The New York Times and confirmed by a second person on the thread, who declined to be identified because of the private nature of the texts.

As the “scandal” was spiraling on Thursday, Cruz released a statement saying he had flown to Mexico “to be a good dad” and accompany his daughters and their friends. He also said he was flying back that afternoon.

I'm sure Jeb calculated that the pesky little Terry Shiavo flap would blow over too.

Terry Schiavo had ZERO effect on Jeb Bush. ZERO!

“Except Ted Cruz has nothing whatsoever to do with generating and running electric power in Texas. Its not his job.”

Yes, However his job is to protect and look out for Texans. He should have been making calls and being on the ground to see what was needed and using his power as a senator to make things happen.

Yeah, that was the problem. I doubt he thought about it for more than 2 seconds.

What in tarnation did Cruz think the lying media would say after Cruz and family fly off to Cancun, all while most Texans were breaking icicles off their faces as they hunkered down with no heat or power, for days!

Except Ted Cruz has nothing whatsoever to do with generating and running electric power in Texas. Its not his job.

Well then, he should grab the girls and head off to Tahiti until the temps get back into the mid 60s.

Its forgotten by all people with any sense already.
You can't manufacture a “crisis” out of nothing.
Ted Cruz is not in the hierarchy of those who are responsible for generating or running electric power in Texas. Its not his job.

And just what would he be doing in Tahiti?

He can make all the telephone calls he wants from Mexico, no? Ted Cruz was in Mexico for a very brief period, so what's the problem then?

This whole ‘we need him!’ then ‘he couldn’t do anything!’ with the bots is really something else.

Send the wife and kids to wherever, and then see what he can do to provide some LEADERSHIP in the state. That is, if he has any ambition for any sort of EXECUTIVE office.

That’s what real leaders do — they figure out ways to solve a problem, and get people to move toward solutions, even if it is not officially their job.

One example of leadership, from 45 years ago

Indeed. As moronic as Sheila Jackson Lee may be, she has the sense to at least give the appearance of helping her constituents. There’s a reason she keeps getting re-elected, and never even faces a significant primary challenge.

It's not Ted Cruz's job to provide leadership on fixing broken down power plants.
There is a whole massive bureaucracy out there in Taxes for that kind of thing, including the Governor, Lieutenant Governor and a whole bureaucracy created just for this purpose.
Ted Cruz’ efforts in this whole nonsense will consist of making speeches etc. That's about it. He can't give orders to any engineers to fix nothing.

Did Cruz think they’d give him a pass?

Republicans will never learn they're being watched every second and everything they do will become headline news.

Most laughable post of the thread?

There's a reason she keeps getting re-elected, and never even faces a significant primary challenge.

Because she is black and is from a majority black congressional district?
Where do you clowns get off posting such garbage on FR anyways?

... it’s not a huge issue to me.

The principles expressed in your post are important. Cruz has a responsibility to his Texas voters if only because they selected him to represent them.

Publicly recommending in the face of threatening weather with expected shortages that his voters remain quite uncomfortably at home (as he did according to news reports), and then flying off to a sunny resort beach is not the action of a competent leader.

It is true the quality of his representation and how he regards Texas voters may not be a huge issue for you or the rest of us, but that is only until we at the national level are asked to vote for him.
