Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) admitted Thursday that he had planned on spending longer than he did in Cancún, in a spur-of-the-moment trip his wife tried to recruit friends and neighbors to join that was motivated by Texas’ frigid temperatures, according to texts obtained by the New York Times, following widespread outrage over a vacation Cruz initially claimed was driven by his daughters and their friends.
The senator’s wife, Heidi Cruz, tried to recruit friends for the trip on Wednesday and noted their house was “FREEZING,” the Times reported Thursday, citing texts obtained from a group chat.
She proposed staying at the Ritz-Carlton in Cancún, according to the Times.

This makes it worse. Lets blame the wife and not take responsibility. He should have stood up to his wife. Told her no. Makes him look very weak.
So their rotten friends released the texts to the media? I can understand a family wanting to get out of the cold. It is commendable. Ted, though, seems unable to see how he appears to others. It is OK for Democrats to be like Ted, but Republicans will get destroyed for it.

That image of him at the airport is going to haunt him. Right and wrong don’t matter in politics, only winning and losing. He hurt his personal brand greatly. Cruz SHOULD have beaten Beto by 10 to 15 points in 2018, but instead needed the man he despises, Trump, to pull him across the finish line (and barely). While Cruz’s Senate record is basically spotless, he is a TERRIBLE politician and our side LOSES elections when we nominate dimwits. Look at West Virgina - a state that went 70/30 for Trump because of Obama’s War on Coal. What happened 2 years later? The Republicans there ran a TOTAL LOSER, and Manchin was re-elected by 10 points.
In another world, where WE control some media, maybe we people with Cruz’s lack of brains could keep the story spiked, but not in this world. The best thing now is to simply replace him in the 2024 primary...he doesn’t seem to have the level of common sense needed for the job, nor does anyone around him (or if they do, he doesn’t see a need to take their advice).

That would like nothing better than to stick it to Texas for voting for Trump.

Actually Cruz CREATED what Beto is today. Had Beto run against Cornyn and lost by 10 points, as happened with Cornyn’s Senate opponent this year (whoever he was), no one would give a damn about Beto. But Cruz’s little stunt against Trump at the convention STILL rubs people raw, and a lot of them sat out 2018 (and no, me NOT included, as I understand the difference between Republicans and Democrats).
