Former President Donald Trump said Wednesday, hours after the death of Rush Limbaugh was announced, that he will not try to replace the popular radio host.
“There’s a lot of people that are mentioning that and no, it’s not anything I’ve thought about. But he’d be a hard one to replace. You know, we talked to a friend of yours, Sean Hannity, he said, ‘He’s irreplaceable.’ And I view that too. I say he’s irreplaceable,” Trump said during an interview with Newsmax TV.
“You wouldn’t want to follow Rush, it’s the old story, you get somebody like that, you don’t want to follow him, because some things just can’t be done. He was unique.”
Trump repeatedly called Limbaugh “irreplaceable” during an earlier interview on Fox News, saying: “He had an audience that is massive. He would just talk for two hours or three hours, just talk. That’s not an easy thing to do.”
Limbaugh once told the former president that he did study hard before going on air, Trump also said.
“Actually, the big secret, he did work hard. I would ask them, ‘When you go on, do you just go on and wing it?’ And he goes, ‘No, I actually worked very hard to, to learn about the current events, mostly, largely.’ But he said ‘I worked very hard for every show.’ And he did. He did. I always thought maybe he didn’t, but he did,” Trump told Newsmax.
Trump showed his appreciation for the longtime radio host in 2020, when he awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The White House at the time described Limbaugh as a “legendary radio host with millions of loving fans.”

The Todd Herman guy has been doing a bang up job as a sub.
Never thought that would be a good idea - full time talk show host - but if they decide to keep the Rush show going for a time with guest hosts, Trump could do maybe one show a week for several months and use that as one way to keep his voice out there.
I wouldn’t mind some of Rush’s old stuff maybe a few days a week.
Trump is the president and needs to contend with an illegal illegitimate government that has taken over by fraud and conspiracy.
It’s not a small thing.
I thought that Bo Snerdley (James Golden) would end up taking over.
Trump certainly does not want the gig. About the only one of the subs I would listen to would be Steyn.
Yes, that’s not a bad idea until they figure out how to fill these time slots.
Trump would be OK for that but having his own show - probably wouldn’t do that well. At first it would, because of the fanatic factor.
But Trump is not truly the best communicator. His voice isn’t that great, and while he’s much better extemporaneously than reading a speech, he still doesn’t quite fill up the time with real full thoughts. There’s too much “doing a fantastic job, an incredible job” redundancy. Kind of “uh uh” but fancier.
The perspective from the radio business (which above all things, Rush was adamant about as being #1 in importance) The 12p-3p EST slot is gold, a network of stations who have embraced Rush for 33 years. They must have a progression to something that will continue the success. It may be trial and error, I personally kind of like the idea of a different host on a different day. Five dynamite communicators continuing the pursuit of Liberty through a direct voice with the people - sans the Enemedia.
James (Bo Snerdley) Golden, Todd Herman, Mark Steyn, Ken Matthews and Donald Trump (Open Line Friday).. just a thought. Premiere Networks will make the right decision.
Yup
Hes got timeless stuff in those archived recordings
Bo is a great guy, but he is nowhere near literate, worldly or articulate enough to take that program over.
That is not meant as a put down. That’s just my opinion as a listener.
Dittos.
No, Trump is not a radio man.
We’re not talking 32 years like Rush. Twitter is down for him so what better way than to have his own talk show? Doesn’t have to be 3 hours/day. Now equal time provision. he’s a civilian now.
I actually said last night he’d be the one who could do it.
Trump can’t do a radio show and remain the head of the Republican party, trying to get people elected.
I would like Bo, too. He knows radio and did his own one time.
Yup—Steyn is brilliant and always interesting.
This was a complete media invention — the idea that he was considering this.
No denigration to Rush, but this is beneath Trump...
