I was a first-time caller and, as it turned out, a last-time caller, because my debut on national radio did not go well.
I had called into the “Rush Limbaugh Show” because he was making fun of Hillary Clinton, in particular, her assertion that day care in the U.S. was a “silent crisis.” And I, a newly minted stay-at-home mom, knew much more about the subject than he did.
It was 1997. America was five years into the Bill Clinton administration, nine years into the nationally syndicated “Rush Limbaugh Show.” Already, he was a fixture of American life, albeit a polarizing one. He was, he said cheekily, “the most dangerous man in America,” and yet, there he was on my 80-something grandmother’s radio five days a week.

I tried many times to get past that dreaded busy signal.
I talked to Beck many times, on air and few times with Bill Bennett.
Nice article. Thanks for the post.
I made it through to speak with Rush twice over the years. The only one I really remember was, on the day John Denver died. I basically just said, “Although I didn’t agree with Denver’s politics, I loved his music and would miss his talent”. Rush (Bo) kept me on hold for almost the entire show... but, took my call right at the end, and then agreed with me. He made some comments about how we shouldn’t let our political divides keep us from appreciating the value of talent.
The other time, I called was something about the Clinton impeachment. I thought it was a brilliant point at the time, I’m sure. But, I was SO AWESTRUCK to be talking with Rush, I think I could barely speak.
I’ve spoken with Todd Herman once (About Hate crimes) and with Mark Steyn once (about immigration).
I tried SEVERAL times over the last few months to get through. I really wanted to speak with Rush once more. Once, on a Friday... I got through to Bo. I wanted to speak about some kind of blatant hypocrisy from Pelosi. Bo was interested in it. I was on hold for almost 2 hours. Right at the very end, Bo came on the line to ask if they could call me back on Monday. Of course, I said yes... but, they never did. That was before the fraudulent election... but, I’m not sure exactly when?
Guess I’ve missed my chance now. :-(
I don’t remember that particular crisis. Clinton gave us so many. How did it turn out? Did we survive?
I got through a couple of times to Michael Medved and twice to Hugh Hewitt. Never tries to call Beck. Not sure I want that crackhead knowing my phone number!! LOL
I remember the exact opposite. "If law enforcement comes to your door illegally, you have the right to defend yourself constitutionally. Just remember that they wear body armor so shoot for the head!" Or words to that effect.
I was to get through recently to Rush’s show when he took ill, but that was to the substitute host.
Been fortunate enough to entertain the call screeners for everybody else and have gotten on-air time with Boortz, Prager, Bennett, Gallagher, Prager, Gorka, Hannity, Ingraham, Medvedev (yeah, we disagreed!), Beck, and Paglia on the weekand show.
For a free book from Gorka!
I got to see the G Man a long time ago at EIU, I was the only one cheering and footy for him. He was great and told it like it was and the liberal children hated him for it. It was my introduction into liberals and their hate filled lives.
Rush was a regular viewer here, or he had staff people monitoring. I also saw some direct adaptations of comments made here. Quite an honor imo.
I fully believe rush used free republic as show prep every day
Yes, he used FR. During the Obama years my Tagline was: "I don't oppose Obama because his skin is too brown, but because his ideas are too red".
I sent him an email and told him I was honored that he used, but I do think he should've given me credit. I never heard him say it again. Pity. It's a great line and full of truth.
I called Rush when Beck was shown evidence that the first Boston suspect was indeed a Saudi terrorist. He mentioned it that day, but then dropped it. I spoke with Liddy once about the Foster murder, which he also believed.
