DAVID LIMBAUGH -- BOOK SIGNING PARTY FOR "ABSOLUTE POWER" WAS AN ABSOLUTE DELIGHT -- 4/18/01
News/Current Events Breaking News News Keywords: DAVID LIMBAUGH, RUSH LIMBAUGH, SEAN HANNITY, ANN COULTER, MONA CHARON, KATE O'BIERNE, AND MORE Source: Self Published: April 18, 2001 Author: Angelwood Posted on 04/18/2001 21:20:16 PDT by Angelwood Morton's Steak House is located in the Washington Square Building at Connecticut Avenue and L Street in DC. It has been in the news at various times since its opening due to the clientele -- Monica Lewinsky has dined there frequently.
I happen to work in this building and found myself with the opportunity to linger in the lobby this evening.
The occasion for my presence outside Morton's Steak House was a gala book signing party held by Regnery Publishing to honor David Limbaugh and to celebrate the publication of his book, "Absolute Power," listed on the New York Times Bestseller List. The party was scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and was bound to attract plenty of conservatives.
I found a good spot along the railing on the balcony near Morton's with a good view of the main door and the UP escalator.
The lobby of my building is really a busy place -- people come and go constantly and there is a Post Office in the lower lobby, as well as a number of shops. The Farragut North Metro Station is right outside the main door.
Six gentlemen came by me in groups of three. I recognized one of the men but couldn't remember his name. I realized that I needed LurkerNoMore! standing beside me -- she can spot someone famous at 50 paces.
A family group of four dressed in tourist garb with a DC map to guide them rode up the escalator and walked into Morton's. I wondered if they knew what the prices were for dinner there. A couple of minutes later and they were back out the door on their way down the escalator to the lobby. After consulting their map and tourist guide, they headed off in a new direction.
I recognized Cal Thomas as he arrived with his wife. He graciously stopped to say hello -- we had met at a Media Research Center awards dinner last year. He laughed as I showed him my I WANT MY MUFFLER button.
It was nearing 6:00 p.m. when Clinton's a liar and diotima stepped onto the escalator just behind Ann Coulter. Ann was dragging her luggage behind and said she was a half hour late as she walked by.
After quick greetings and hugs, Clinton's a liar and diotima eagerly entered Morton's to attend the party. I returned to my vantage point to watch for other arrivals and wait for Kristinn to join me.
Soon, I spied Sean Hannity coming into the building wearing sunglasses with his overnight bag slung over his shoulder. He took his sunglasses off as he ascended on the escalator and I decided it was really him. As Sean passed me, I told him, "hope you enjoy the party." He stopped to ask who I was so I introduced myself. He stayed long enough to get SORE LOSERMAN and I WANT MY MUFFLER buttons. He said the SORE LOSERMAN was a classic. He said he knew Clinton's a liar from Free Republic and I told him she was already inside.
Traffic for Morton's picked up. I recognized another conservative columnist, Mona Charon, as she arrived by herself. Two more family groups each with three children entered Morton's for dinner or the party. They stayed.
I had been told that David Limbaugh and his brother have similar features. A guy looking somewhat like Rush Limbaugh got on the escalator. I was trying to decide if it was Rush or not, but his hair was lighter in color than the pictures on Rush's web site, so I thought it might be David. As the man walked past me, I asked if he was David. He gave me a resounding NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO and kept on walking.
Very soon thereafter, Clinton's a liar brought David Limbaugh out to meet me. They told me everyone was inside laughing because Rush Limbaugh arrived at the party with the tale of a woman who asked him, "Are you David?" Yep, that Rush Limbaugh look-alike was none of than Rush Limbaugh himself.
David Limbaugh invited me to join the party and it was an honor and a pleasure to meet him. He also graciously signed one of his books for me and many others who attended the party. Thank you, David.
Clinton's a liar, diotima and I were able to meet Rush Limbaugh and laugh with him about the "Are you David?" line. We told him we were FReepers and talked about Free Republic, its detractors, the number of registered posters, the different factions that post and the fact that most of us support him. Jim Robinson does a great job at Free Republic.
One of the staff members from Regnery Publishing brought over a name tag with Rush's name printed on it. Clinton's a liar mentioned "Are you David?" again and Rush Limbaugh signed the name tag and gave it to me. I wore it proudly for the remainder of the evening. Thank you, Rush.
Several times I left Morton's to see if Kristinn had arrived. I was standing by the main entrance when John Gibson walked in and I couldn't resist telling him how pleased I was that he was on Fox News. He noticed my special name tag and I pointed out the way to the party.
When I returned, the party was in full swing and very crowded. David Limbaugh stood at a podium signing copies of his book. Sean Hannity was talking with people and posing for photos. Rush Limbaugh was constantly surrounded. There were balloons by the tables and bar and waiters slipped in and out with trays of hor d'oeurves and drinks. The sounds of all those conversations made it difficult to hear the person next to you.
I was fortunate enough to meet and talk to Mona Charon and Kate O'Bierne. I asked Kate how she stands being ganged up on by the liberals every week on "Capital Gang." She laughed. Both ladies now have I WANT MY MUFFLER buttons and I enjoyed our discussion about conservative columnists.
Ed Timperlake (one half of severnside on Free Republic) was there with his wife and daughter. Listening to his insights on China and the present situation was fascinating.
Clinton's a liar presented a copy of the Free Republic Inaugural Ball and Count The White House Silverware Party video to Rush Limbaugh. He posed for pictures with all of us just before he left. We were close behind.
At the top of the escalator, we spotted James Golden (also known as Bo Snerdley) on his way to the party. Rush Limbaugh was still in the lobby, so all of the FReepers imediately shouted RUSH! to catch his attention so he could greet his old friend.
Kristinn finally arrived on the scene and was able to meet Rush, who posed for more pictures and was heard to good-naturedly mutter something to the effect that I can't get away from the FReepers. We laughed and said, "We're Everywhere."
Rush left the building, James Golden and his guest went to the party, Clinton's a liar and diotima went to find something to eat and Kristinn and I dropped into Morton's.
There were still a number of guests at the party. Kristinn and I met Al Regnery and complimented him on the number of books that his company has published which helped to bring out the truth during the past eight years. He was familiar with Free Republic.
As Ann Coulter was leaving, she shook hands with Kristinn and said "I've got a FReeper jacket just like that."
David Limbaugh's book and the party to celebrate the book turned out to be an absolute delight.
I've written this account of the evening rather quickly. I hope you all enjoy the report. Clinton's a liar will post pictures. She has some great ones with David Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh. 1 Posted on 04/18/2001 21:20:16 PDT by Angelwood

Hard to believe that was 20 years ago.
Thanks for posting this wonderful story!
Thanks for sharing - I didn’t make it to here until ‘04 and still recognize a couple of the names that are no longer with us. Some very fine days have passed.
Thanks. Angelwood did a great job writing the report fresh from memory that night.
Thanks for posting. He brought me around to conservatism when I was finding my way.
His dad was my dad’s attorney years ago.
Rush was a tremendous source of political insight and guidance. I listened to him for many years with great enthusiasm.
Good memories, thanks for sharing.
Very nice. Thanks Kristinn.
Please help me remember what the ‘I WANT MY MUFFLER’ button was about.

...There was a group back in the 1990s — and they still exist.
There was a group in the 1990s that were malcontents, renegades, and off the mainstream plantation of conservatism as articulated by the party.
Those were the people that were the early participants in the website Free Republic.
They were known as Freepers. - Rush Limbaugh, July 3, 2013

Thanks for the memories, Kristinn.
R.I.P. Rush Limbaugh! It was an honor to meet him in person. My prayers and condolences go out to his wife, family, friends and followers. Rush will surely be missed.
Wonderful, Thank you kristinn!
Absolute must read!
Thank you for posting this, kristinn.
So good to see you and Angelwood posting.
I hang out on the Trump Train threads these days.
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days.
For nearly 33 years we have had Rush riding around in our cars with us as we go about the routines of our daily lives. He was our trusted friend. I cannot imagine what life will be like without that noon to 3:00 pm anchor of my day. No matter if I got to listen every day, he was ALWAYS THERE and I knew I could get his take on things of import be it live or later on 24/7. We are blessed to have had that, and he would want us all to press forward even more-so in this time of great challenges for our nation.
Rush is now home, reconciled to his Maker. God rest his soul.
For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. ~ 1 Corinthians 13:12
I can’t believe that was 20 years ago!
It can’t be!
