Germany is expected to become the first country to ban mass culling of male chicks in the poultry industry, the government said after approving a draft law ending the controversial practice. The measure passed by the cabinet envisages a ban on mass chick killing from 2022 in “a significant step forward for animal welfare”, the agriculture minister, Julia Klöckner, said in a statement on Wednesday.

To say nothing about eliminating the jobs of the German chick sex inspectors. Yes, that’s a real job as I saw on Mike Rowe’s ‘Dirty Jobs’ show. Some folks needed to be employed to pick out the males needing to be culled.

Egg and poultry prices will quickly escalate, then be replaced by cheaper imports that put German egg and poultry farmers out of business.

That's one likely outcome. Another would be a mass investment in mechanization to emasculate roosters efficiently, putting capon on the menu in more places, but not really doing much for the humane treatment of roosters. A third possibility is that they'll figure out how to sex the eggs and just kill off or sell the eggs of would-be roosters before they hatch, Margaret Sanger style. Nothing makes chicken farming more humane, it only makes the animal lovers feel better about themselves.

They’ll be deployed as the new Huhnwaffe, or Huhnmacht.

They’ll then invade France and take Paris, only to have Le Resistance make them into Coque la Vin.

You only need a few roosters to party with hens, what are they going to do with the rest.

The bill was obviously the brainchild of the cock-fighting industry.

“Who’s going to take all these young Roosters?”

KFC. I think they were killing the male chicks.

Hitler cried when he visited a slaughterhouse for cattle. This is according to William Shirer in The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.

If it is still chicken, McDonald's will take them.

Parts is Parts to make that McNugget.

The culling of cockerels? I worked in chicken hatcheries and male chicks were not culled or destroyed. They were sent out to the growers and then to processing for meat.

Growers actually preferred cockerels as they put on weight faster.

Only the deformed were culled and killed.

If there’s a country to be first to muster poultry soldiers it would have to be China, after all everyone knows General Tso is chicken.

I’m reminded of the bunny huggers that got the horse processing plants shut down. In the days of old, the old or crippled horses went to the “glue factory.”

The ones that were sold at auction or person to person brought decent money.

Now we see them dumped out at night in city parks or sold for basically the auction fee.

So now producers will have to deal with trying to keep these roosters from fighting each other by separating them. You can lose a whole lot of chickens in a hurry due to their tendency to see a drip of blood on another chicken and proceed to slaughter it. The carnage ends with the last chicken alive.

Can you do a DNA test on the egg and then fire up the Ronco egg scrambler on half the eggs? Or does death before hatching count for chickens?

They aren’t necessarily euthanized.

In many locations, as they are culled, they are tossed into a grinder alive.

Not a great ending.

It depends what you mean by euthanized. The grinder is noted as a quick death.

Neutered roosters, or Capons are considered a delicacy in France. Sell them to France.

Win-win.

Please help me understand why they can pass a law to protect chickens but not human babies?

From the Article; From 2024, the draft law will also require poultry farmers to use methods that work at an earlier stage in the incubation process, preventing pain for the unhatched embryos.

Leftists are just insane
