GOP Sen. Cassidy: 'I voted to convict Trump because he is guilty'

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) tweeted on Saturday that he voted to convict former President Donald Trump in the Senate impeachment trial “because he is guilty.”

“Our Constitution and our country is more important than any one person. I voted to convict President Trump because he is guilty,” Cassidy tweeted.

Cassidy is one of seven Republicans who was convinced by the House managers' arguments and voted to convict Trump in a 57-43 vote.

Cassidy was joined by fellow Republican colleagues Sens. Mitt Romney (Utah), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Ben Sasse (Neb.), Patrick Toomey (Pa.) and Richard Burr (N.C.).

Cassidy’s decision was a surprise to some after he was seen on Friday with a statement that showed support for Trump’s acquittal, but his communications director stated that Cassidy had drafted two statements, one for and against Trump’s conviction.

Cassidy has previously said that that the House Managers had “done very well” with their arguments for Trump’s guilt.

However, the arguments fell short as conviction would have required 17 Republicans to side with the Democrats.

Since Trump was not convicted, he is allowed to run for a political office again. He has made clear he will stay involved in the political realm, but it is not clear what his future plans are with the Republican party.

‘’Its the seriousness of the charge which proves his guilt,” he added.’’

I guess that means if someone accuse him of murder ... he’s automatically guilty.

"How will this play in Shreveport, Baton Rouge and New Orleans?"

We'll have to wait for S'port and N.O., but the Baton Rouge 'Pubbies censured him for his first anti-Trump vote. I suspect his ass is cooked and his political career over.

“Cassidy better retire after his term. I think he is done in Louisiana.”

He knows something and is betting on the Commies.

Here is he deal,as far a I am concerned, whatever you think Trump did,the demonrats did worse. If demonrats are not going to be held responsible for their far, far, far greater crimes then, even if you think PDJT is guilty, it is unjust to convict him.

It is just that simple, ex-senator Cassidy.

Bill, the rest of the jury did not agree with you and Chuck. They found President Trump innocent.

And I don’t agree with you Bill.

Cassidy tweeted after participating in an obviously unconstitutional impeachment trial.

The sanctimonious moralizing of anti-American RINOs who prance around pretending to support the Constitution grate on the nerves of American citizens.

They have made America grate again.

Of course Cassidy just won a fresh six years, so he’s assuming we’ll forget by then.

You are so right. As Rush said, politicians don’t care about voters. They only care about big donors. It’s a racket. They pretend to give a rat’s butt about what we think and want, and we believe them every time.

Asking his supporters to march “peacefully and patriotically” in front of the Capitol to protest a stolen election makes president Trump guilty of what?

Cassidy is an ***hole.

They could take him down in the jungle primary. But that opens the door to a Democrat.

but Louisiana allows for recall of any elected official, except judges.

This may be so but I’m pretty sure SCOTUS has prohibited the recall of anyone in Congress. Hope I’m wrong.
