Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) tweeted on Saturday that he voted to convict former President Donald Trump in the Senate impeachment trial “because he is guilty.”
“Our Constitution and our country is more important than any one person. I voted to convict President Trump because he is guilty,” Cassidy tweeted.
Cassidy is one of seven Republicans who was convinced by the House managers' arguments and voted to convict Trump in a 57-43 vote.
Cassidy was joined by fellow Republican colleagues Sens. Mitt Romney (Utah), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Ben Sasse (Neb.), Patrick Toomey (Pa.) and Richard Burr (N.C.).
Cassidy’s decision was a surprise to some after he was seen on Friday with a statement that showed support for Trump’s acquittal, but his communications director stated that Cassidy had drafted two statements, one for and against Trump’s conviction.
Cassidy has previously said that that the House Managers had “done very well” with their arguments for Trump’s guilt.
However, the arguments fell short as conviction would have required 17 Republicans to side with the Democrats.
Since Trump was not convicted, he is allowed to run for a political office again. He has made clear he will stay involved in the political realm, but it is not clear what his future plans are with the Republican party.

Bill Cassidy needs to prove trump was guilty he has none he’s just looking for someone to spray paint his home or do something silly to prove his point.
That’s exactly what’s going on here. McConnell and his boys are baiting Trump voters big time so his Democrat allies can exploit any bit of protest against them. Given that I suppose ambivalence is the best response. No swamp Republican is worth fighting or even voting for. Care as little about Cassidy and China Mitch as they care about you. Job done.

Cassidy has a new 6 year term that runs through 2026, but Louisiana allows for recall of any elected official, except judges.

The LA Republican Party criticized Cassidy after Cassidy voted that the trial was constitutional.
What will they do now?
Nothing. What they should do is bar him and his staff from state GOP events. Block their computer passwords and all other access , too.
Yup. The real goal should be a 30% turnout in the next election.
Have known the Cassidy family for a good while (I was one of his pastors). I respect his medical expertise but was surprised by his vote.

There’s something not right with the 2020 Election results in Virginia. There were three massive vote dumps of more than 300,000 Biden votes late on Election night that are being ignored by politicians and the media.
We reported previously on the 2020 election results for President in Virginia. Hundreds of thousands of votes for Joe Biden were reported in massive vote dumps in the middle of the night and yesterday we discovered this all took place in Fairfax County. A response from Delegate Chris Head to a constituent attempted to answer questions related to these ballot dumps but failed miserably:
