MILFORD – Due to the weather, the Milford Town Planning Board meeting was cancelled this evening, delaying the resolution of efforts to have the “Trump 2024” billboard removed on Route 28 outside the north end of the village.
The village’s mayor, Brian Pokorny, said this evening that two town Planning Board members approached him two weeks ago, advising him to remove the billboard or face fines; no amount was specified. The billboard is located in the town, but on property owned by the village, he said.
According to the town law, political signs – mostly those small ones people put on their lawns – can only be displayed for 30 days. However, Pokorny said he conferred with Rome Sign Co., which owns the billboard, and was told the company’s attorneys think the sign is fine.
A few days later after the initial meeting, “I got an email from the head of town Planning Board,” Bruce Milavec, “asking if there was any movement. I said no,” the mayor said.
Pokorny said he’s unsure the town Planning Board even has the authority to require the billboard’s removal, and town Zoning Enforcement Officer Barbara Monroe agreed.
She said the Planning Board would have to refer any enforcement action to the zoning enforcement officer. And if it does, “I have no intention of writing a violation on that sign,” at least for now, she said.
She said she has advised Town Attorney Hyde Clark and Milavec, who this evening said he was unaware of any controversy, to review the sign to make sure it is even covered by the law.

Even if they manage to have the sign taken dowm..they lose.
And everyone knows it.

As Donald Trump has not formally declared his candidacy, this cannot be construed as a formal campaign sign. It is wish fulfillment.
The sign owner is entitled to spread his message as long as he wants.
They don’t believe that President Trump has any Constitutional Rights.

LOL You should see the farm guys along I-70 here in central MD. For years they’ve been making their own signs and hanging it from their crane equipment for (Baltimore-bound) 70 to see. Lots of signs about Hitlery and Trump. I’m sure it makes all the liberals around here boil!
Lots of elected officials have a knowledge of 1st Amendment law that is tenuous at best. I’d go with the billboard company’s lawyer on this one.
I was thinking of that sign on 70 as I read the article.
Oh, come now, these people don’t believe that anyone has any Constitutional rights. After all, the Const is a symbol of the white patriarchy//////
Oh, Gawd, I almost chocked trying to parody that twaddle.
Oh the complexities of an administrative state. This is just a microcosm of what goes on federally. In a federal situation like this, an unelected authoritarian would take the reigns and just dismantle this. It’s a lot harder on the local level because officials are held to account.
That’s why they have razor wire surrounding them
That’s why they have a standing army defending them
That’s why they want out guns
The typical town law will differentiate between the small lawn signs and a paid billboard "advertisement". Apples and Oranges, the town liberal should move on.
