A man fishing near Samphire Hoe captured a video of a section of the White Cliffs of Dover collapsing into the sea on February 3. Dennis McIntyre took the video and shared the footage on Facebook. He stated he saw pieces of debris and dust falling when he started recording, then he heard cracking sounds like an explosion as the collapsed pieces of chalk and flint hit the water. Councillor Steve Albon from the Thanet District Council urged the public, “Please use common sense and caution – stay away from the edge and base of cliffs at all times and pay attention to any warning signs and safety messages.”

Ah, love, let us be true
To one another! for the world, which seems
To lie before us like a land of dreams,
So various, so beautiful, so new,
Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light,
Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain;
And we are here as on a darkling plain
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,
Where ignorant armies clash by night.

Coastal erosion will happen even if the sea level is receding

They just can’t seem to win. First the Empire and now this.

She died last year. Maybe she is trying to tell us something. The world is about to crumble. Freedom is to be gone.

“Lynn was given a military funeral, which was held on 10 July 2020 in East Sussex. The procession made its way from her home in Ditchling to the Woodvale Crematorium in Brighton;[118] it was widely attended by the public. Ditchling was decorated with poppies, a symbol of military remembrance. Ahead of the funeral, the White Cliffs of Dover had images of Lynn projected onto them, as “We’ll Meet Again” was being played across the English Channel. Her cortege was accompanied by members of the Royal Air Force, the British Army, the Royal Navy, and the Royal British Legion, as well as the Battle of Britain Spitfire flypast, which followed the cortege and passed over Ditchling three times (10 July 2020 was the 80th anniversary of the start of the Battle of Britain). Her coffin was draped in a Union Flag with a wreath. At the family service at the Woodvale Crematorium chapel, she was serenaded by a Royal Marine bugler. Her family have said a public memorial service will be organised for some time in the future.”

Smooth camera work, soon as it starts to go he points the camera up?! Maddening!

Interesting. Most people inexplicably point their cameras to the ground when something worth filming starts happening so we can't see a darn thing.

Cool, I used many bags of DE in the hotel’s swimming pool. (50,000 gallons of HELL!) Always a good time! Did I say good, I meant overtime, as in tending it 7 days a week since nobody else could be bothered to. Cha-ching and free breakfast at our Timko’s! (A Toledo tradition)

That’s astounding virtuosity. I hadn’t heard Eric Johnson before. This live version may be even better:

I meant to say I read many WW2 aviation books all echoing the relief of avaitors upon sighting those white cliffs, knowing they were home again...

Yes, but over time most everything that isn’t being worn away or constantly renewed will get less bright. And that would have even been somewhat true before industrialization.

As someone said, things like this is why they aren’t still hills by the sea.
