David Schoen and Bruce L. Castor, Jr. will head the legal team for the second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, his office announced Sunday, a day after CNN first reported that five known members of his impeachment defense team had left.
One point of friction with his previous team was Trump wanted the attorneys to focus on his election fraud claims rather than the constitutionality of convicting a former president.
Trump has struggled to find lawyers willing to take his case as he refuses to budge from his claims of election fraud which has been a serious sticking point.

Why can’t it be both?
What about Jay Sekulow?
Is David SCHoen, UBER DEMOCRAT DOUG SCHOEN son??? OMG if so.
It seems to me that President Trump never listens to his lawyers. Whether he is right about pursuing the illegalities of the election, or whether he should listen to his attorneys and fight this impeachment on the basis that it’s unconstitutional is a coin toss to me.
But based on Trump’s histories with attorneys; I’d say he is wrong here.
Sekulow declined to take the case.
Forget Jay. Not interested.
Yeah, if I were Trump I’d refuse to appear. John Roberts gave him an out. Trump should say: “The process is unconstitutional. I am an ex president. The Supreme Court Chif justice agrees. Go diddle yourself in the closet and leave me alone.”
These are Lindsay Graham linked establishment stooge lawyers who are playing for Team GOP and Trump is refusing to follow the GOPe script. So they served thier client poorly and quit. This one isn’t complicated. The GOP wants to bury their role in the bipartisan election steal and Trump isn’t going along with China Mitch’s impeachment show trial game plan.
‘
The ones that quit were Lindsey Graham plants..
And they ran right to the media...
Glad they’re gone.
That’s too bad. I wonder why?
“based on Trump’s histories with attorneys; I’d say he is wrong here.”
Nope, President Trump is 100% right.
There is no conviction possible. The People almost lynched the GOPe and the Senate knows it.
President Trump has excellent political instincts. The DemonKKKrats will rue the day.
If you think it went badly for them with the last sham impeachment, you ain’t seen anything yet.
The Democrats don’t have a case for Impeachment. Everyone
knows it. They’ve got 5 Republican pretenders lined up.
Impeachment is dead.
Trump wants to finally get attention for something that he
thinks (and I think) stole the election from him, us.
I say go for it. Let the Democrat Senate be the vehicle
for exposing this to the American people.
Everyone said, “Oh there’s not one bit of evidence.”
We’ll, yes there is and Trump wants to present it.
Good for him.
He’s not wrong.
He’d rather suffer impeachment than let it be said he lost
a fair election.
I applaud that.
The attorneys are turning and running because they don’t
want to damage their reputations by telling the truth about
election fraud.
Who needs people like them on the team.
Focusing on the stolen election, though true, will just PO Senators. Some may vote to impeach out of spite.
Focus on something 45 Senators already said was a good defense—unconstitutional to impeach a private citizen—is zero risk, and the correct path.
The goal is prevent them from stripping Trump of the ability to run again. Second choice will do that.
People need to stop thinking with emotions, like progressives do, and use logic. Take the win, and live to fight another day.
I’d be very tempted to not even have a defense in this fraud. Very loudly point out every day this goes on what a waste of time and money it is too.
Must Trump publicly ‘announce’ his legal team?
We may be curious, but we don’t have the need to know.
Is that a requirement for a former president?
I wish he would not. That only helps the Libs indentify and them all the more quickly for death threats and dirt digging expeditions.
Armchair lawyers.
It completely depends on the desired outcome. I think the previous lawyers were looking at this as a legal case and trying to assure he wasn't convicted.
Trump couldn't care less about the legal case. This is all about narrative, PR and positioning in the eyes of his base.
I can see why the other lawyers didn't want to play.
