(CNN) Former President Donald Trump's five impeachment defense attorneys have left a little more than a week before his trial is set to begin, according to people familiar with the case, amid a disagreement over his legal strategy.

It was a dramatic development in the second impeachment trial for Trump, who has struggled to find lawyers willing to take his case. And now, with legal briefs due next week and a trial set to begin only days later, Trump is clinging to his election fraud charade and suddenly finds himself without legal representation.

Thank you...I hope others take note and make an effort to be civil in their discourse on FR. It’s like a disease has taken over the country and I hope here at least, people will exhibit some care with their words and perhaps soon, the country can be civil to/with one another again. It’s a particular obsession of mine and has been with me for more years than I want to admit..

It reminds me a little bit of a criminal defendant that wants to get on the stand to tell his side of the story.

The lawyer says I have a better chance of a verdict if I argue XYZ. The client says I don’t care..put me on the stand.

He blows it up.

Jurors who might have voted his way now vote to convict him.

This is where Trump is...he has the votes ...until he doesn’t.

This is the trash that people said the first time.

And it’s the only reason they’re doing it again.

The Rush to get it over is a Dem Media construct.

Make them deny 50 Witnesses. Russia should be first and foremost.
This is a continuation of the Get Trump Op that first manifested itself as the Russian Hoax.

Use their fake proceeding to make your case.

That might have been true (in terms of the six votes to convict) two weeks ago, but not anymore. And nobody cares how many would vote to convict if they could get away with it. The GOP voters despise their party because we recognize that they’re feckless liars.

Kevin McCarthy would have WALKED from California to visit Trump in Florida, if Trump had demanded it.

I’ll tell you something else that will be remembered as a major turning point in the 2021 political landscape: that anti-Cheney rally in Wyoming a few days ago. Think of the optics there. You had Matt Gaetz, a prominent House member from Florida, traveling two thousand miles away to Wyoming ... to tell another House member who holds a leadership post IN THE SAME PARTY to get the hell out of office and go away.

I am sure that sentiment is multiplied millions of times over among Trump’s supporters. These GOP leaders aren’t afraid of Trump starting a third party. They fully recognize that Trump would be starting a SECOND party ... and the Republican Party would be finished as a political force.

,
Except that those trials are real.

This one has a fake Judge who is a long term Political Hack running an Unconstitutional Circus.

The Republicans are going to Vote against him after he exposes the entire Russian Witch Hunt?

They are going to deny all Trump Witnesses, anyway, because it’s Fake.

Ask for every single one.

Is there any history of Senators voting in secret? I heard US Senate is the world’s greatest deliberative body with open dialog and debate. Secret voting will destroy that meme.

Expose all the Dem Senators that urged Antifa and BLM and got their soldiers out of Jail to burn again!

Put them up on a screen and play their statements.

FNC also now reporting the same, for those who doubted the original source.

I disagree. The blatant election fraud has made us the laughing stock among the banana republics of the world.

I would also point out that Trump’s primary goal here is not what we may think it is. The posts on this thread are all predicated on an argument over two goals: (1) avoid conviction vs. (2) expose election fraud.

I believe Trump’s mindset is closer to Item (2), but his real goal here is to completely discredit and undermine the Biden/Harris administration from the start. And that will extend to any Republicans who don’t stand up and fight them with the passion of a thousand white-hot suns, too.

I don’t think Trump gives a rats bazoo about the impeachment its just a platform to present the hardcore election evidence for the public to view. He wants this in front of everyone.

We see once again the bipartisan nature of the coup and election steal.

Conviction was never going to happen because that would wake the sleeping GOP main street voters to the full depth of GOP support for Democrats. We saw in the GA runoffs what happens when they stay home. The GOP loses.

The GOP want to use this hoax impeachment as a vehicle to further obscure their role in the stolen election and provide Potemkin support for Trump when he can’t benefit politically from it.

So naturally the establishment connected lawyers bail on orders when it becomes clear Trump is not following the GOPe script. This sort of blacklisting and denial of effective support for President Trump has been going on for five years now.

That is all political theater. McCarthy pretending he cares what Trump says. Trump pretending he has allies in the swamp McCarthy could remove Cheney. Is he? Nope. The proof is in the pudding.

It’s only “political theater” because it doesn’t matter for another year and a half.

The Senate may not consent to that, but Trump should FORCE the issue. Force it into the congressional record.

It’s the only way to get it documented in the public record.
