About two years ago, one of my wife's best friends began to turn down invitations to get together. Then, out of the blue, she unfriended my wife on Facebook.
That's kind of a rude way to brush off someone, so my wife finally asked her: What gives? Have I offended you? Her terse text response was full of self-righteousness: "John (her husband) and I are so appalled by the things that Steve writes that we don't want to associate with you anymore."
I wasn't offended that they disagree with my positions or even that they felt our political disagreements are so wide that we probably shouldn't hang out together anymore. After all, we are two Americas today.
What stuck in my craw was the word "appalled." It was her way of saying: "We are better people than you. We have higher standards." "Appalled" is the outrage you feel when someone gets drunk and starts hitting on your wife.
I recite the incident because it is an example of how liberals have anointed themselves as not just intellectually but morally superior to those on the right. Welcome to the "religious left."
A case in point: the Boston Globe recently printed a front-page opinion piece by the paper's liberal columnist Yvonne Abraham, who denounced the idea of any "unity" agenda with Republicans or conservatives. "Here's the thing about unity," she snuffed. "To achieve it, you have to believe in a common good. And most members of this Republican Party have demonstrated over and over that they simply don't." You can't find common ground with a movement "defined by lies."
Of course, the irony here is that it is President Joe Biden, not Republicans, who is pledging an agenda to unify the country. But so far, the new administration's position seems to be: Why bother to find common ground when you control all of the levers of governmental power and you can steamroll over them instead?
What is to be gained by uniting with people who are "white supremacists" or "insurrectionists"?
Most everyone I know on the right agrees that violence is rarely, if ever, an acceptable form of political protest.
Do liberals? The new vice president of the United States called the liberal mobs who ransacked cities this summer "social justice warriors." Apparently, it is excusable to burn down a building or assault a police officer if you are protesting racial injustice, climate change, abortion rights or cuts in social programs.
The Trump Haters say that the rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol are guilty of a treasonable offense. OK, but several years ago, when many thousands of "social justice warriors" (i.e., union thugs) stormed past the police and occupied the domed Capital building in Madison for days, the media celebrated.
Abraham is right about unity. America is now a country divided into Hatfields and McCoys. In just his first four days in office, it's clear there isn't going to be any unifying of the country under Biden. That was a hollow campaign slogan that has swirled down the drain as the White House issued executive orders, such as killing the Keystone XL pipeline, that have infuriated conservatives. The absurd House snap-impeachment of former President Donald Trump a few days before he was to leave office was absurd enough, but not nearly as divisive as the apparent Senate plans to go ahead with a trial.
Biden said he "doesn't see red states and blue states, only sees the United States." Really? Then why is one of his first proposals a blue-state bailout to the tune of $350 billion -- to be paid by the Republicans in red states. That is a financial insurrection against the half of the states that are not run by Democrats.
The left doesn't want unity with the right. It wants submission. They don't think we live up to their standards of proper behavior and righteousness.
If these are the people that are collectively "unfriending" us on Facebook and in the grocery stores, that's fine by us. Frankly, the feeling is mutual.
This has riven families - just as was intended.
My husband stopped speaking to his cousin because she couldn’t say enough nice things about Biden and Newsom, while calling anyone supporting Trump White Supremacists and Nazis. There was no common ground after that, and it’s all she wanted to talk about.
My neighbor said there was a huge fight at her Thanksgiving table that spilled out onto the lawn and almost came to physical violence due to Trump vs. Biden support. Again, no common ground between warring camps. She said she has spoken to none of them since and has no plans to.

It may not be, but it may be essential to preserve our way of life.
After five years of my Democrat family calling Trump disgustung names I cut ties. Enough.
“Anarchists,” “white supremacists,” “deplorables,” “insurrectionists”.......just some of the labeling the left uses for people who annoy them.
She is 100% correct. Simply replace Republican Party with Democrat Party in her statement and that is exactly how I feel about them.
We have nothing in common with them. To me, they are not Americans in any meaningful way.
In their minds at least, they have changed America into something that doesn't resemble America as founded, so they think the same of me.
The Left is exactly like Islam in this respect.
In Islam, they have two states of existence:
Dar al-Islam and Dar al-Harb.
Dar al-Islam is known as “The House of Peace”. It encompasses all areas under the direct rule of Islam, and allows for infidels to live in that group as second class citizens (known as “Dhimmis”) as long as they pay a “jizya” (tax) for being allowed to do so.
Dar al-Harb is known as “The House of War”, and encompasses all other areas and peoples not encompassed by Dar al-Islam (House of Peace).
It relates directly to the Left, because you can have unity and peace with them if you submit directly to their tyrannical ideological rules, or shut your mouth and pay your taxes as long as you don’t let on you might think otherwise.
Even then, Islam is likely more tolerant as long as you mouth the words, pay your taxes, and shut your mouth. Leftists operate more along the lines of Orwell’s “1984” where even thinking outside the Leftist Orthodoxy (CrimeThink) is punishable. To the Left, you must be forced to believe that 2+2=5. Just mouthing it won’t be enough. You must believe it, or face being “cured”.
Bottom line, there will be peace. There will be peace. When you submit wholly to them of your own will, be “cured” against your will, or crushed under their boot.
That is their unity and peace.
I am not a real Star Wars fan and the comparison is pretty trite, but still — in the early Star Wars movies, it seemed that the Jedi really wanted to “bring balance to the Force” — by totally wiping out the other side of the equation (the Sith).
In the same way, the Left would like to see a unified political viewpoint — by wiping out anyone who does not toe the Party line.

Yeah. I see those everywhere where I live. It is utterly nauseating.
I have always found it grimly amusing that they have the “Science is Real” and the “No Human is Illegal” talking points.
Science is real, if they believe it is real. They don’t believe XX=Female and XY=Male. So they are selective.
No Human is Illegal...they wouldn’t think so if they came home and their house had people in there eating their food and drinking their liquor.
My experience has taught me that the majority of people that act like this end up getting screwed by the very people they support and defend. Then of course, My Wife and I take full pleasure of making fun of them right to their face.
example. I can’t count how many times I said “that’s hope and change for you” to countless people standing in line at the store while listening to them complain how the prices have doubled and the portions shrunk by 30%.
EVERYTIME I hear anyone complain about the price of GAS, I say YEAH BABY JOE BIDEN IS GREAT!!
Why would any decent person want to unite with neo-Nazis, white supremacists and deplorables? They know we are evil. Like the Singing Nuns or The Little Sisters of the Poor we are not worthy. But if you can convince the less perceptive of your opponents that you want to make nice they will be unprepared when the hammer falls.

Biden voters have cursed this country with communism.
There was enough information to know what the candidates were.

They don’t want surrender, they want conquest. There’s a difference.
