Shutdown foes buoyed by study showing 'no clear significant' benefit to lockdowns

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem and other lockdown critics have been accused for months of ignoring the science on the novel coronavirus, but a recently released study by Stanford University researchers is providing an empirical boost to those who want to shut down the shutdowns.

A peer-reviewed article in the European Journal of Clinical Investigation found “no clear significant beneficial effect” from stay-at-home orders and business closures in eight nations, including the United States, versus voluntary measures adopted by South Korea and Sweden.

Published Jan. 5, the article offers what may be the strongest scientific challenge yet to more restrictive non-pharmaceutical interventions, or NPIs, prompting cheers from policymakers calling for the reopening of schools, restaurants, bars and gyms.

And Faux President Biden just announced that he’s going to appoint the viciously pro-shutdown, man-who-thinks-he’s-a-woman health dept director of PA as assistant Secy. Of Health.

The shutdown is too useful for them to ever let it go.

We were also buoyed by the HCQ studies and the affidavits about election fraud to no avail. The left shows no signs that reason is going to get them to stop what they’re doing.

In the light of extensive research, I myself am opposed to the all-ages, all-conditions shutdown. However, this study is far too limited as just two nations will not suffice as comparative, while factors such as pop. density, climate, culture and its BMI, and reporting efficacy must be factored in. The US is #12 in deaths per million (higher than even Italy), and Sweden is #22, and while S. Korea is 145, the culture is used to such things as mask mandates and quarantines of visitors, and I suspect Asians may have acquired some immunity and are in better health overall.

Yet Sweden has a 2.0 Case Fatality Rate (which is deaths among those diagnosed with Covid, and is the rate usually reported, versus the Infection Fatality Rate which is deaths based upon the estimated infections and is far more realistic) which is less than such countries as Spain, Poland, Germany, Vietnam, France, United Kingdom, Italy, while the CFR for South Korea is 1.8%, yet the US is 1.7%. Indicating that those diagnosed with Covid have less chance of dying from it, likely due to access to efficacious hospital care. And i know this seems contradictory to the deaths per million, but that may be because the US has a much higher infection rate, being far and away #1 among major nations, thus more deaths per million, although those diagnosed with Covid are less likely to die.

As regards the latter, S. Korea is 183 on the obesity rating (the US is 12, and far and away #1 among major nations). Sweden is 97.

Exactly.

It is Population Control 201 for aspiring authoritarians. Stalin would not have been nearly so clumsy had he taken this course.

Little did he know that the pathway to control would be through the health department!

Actually, it’s through fear, which the CDC and every department or agency on down spread throughout every home in America.

Just start a rumor that there’s some invisible, omni-present enemy at large, and only the government can protect you, and - presto! Instant dictatorship - of fear.
