Statehood for D.C. and Puerto Rico only needs 50 votes
The Week ^ | Jon Walker

Many journalists and political commentators have been pessimistic about the possibility of statehood for the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. This seems to be primarily because, despite the recent Democratic victories in Georgia, moderate senators like Joe Manchin (D-W.V.), Diane Feinstein (D-Calif), and Angus King (I-Maine) continue to support the legislative filibuster. It is impossible to imagine Republican senators voting to give Democratic-leaning areas full representation, so the issue must be dead on arrival in the upper chamber. But in a recent CNN interview, Manchin himself provided evidence for why this thinking is all wrong......."

“DC statehood is illegal.”

“ROFLMAO.

John Roberts says you don’t have “standing” to complain.”

I’m just sitting here so you may be correct.

I’m thinking a new DC on the border of ND and SD and either MT or MN.

We obviously want it the maximum distance from any enemy ICBM or hypersonic missile launch...

We only have to survive 2 years (actually one year) of their attempts to destroy America.

And win MASSIVELY fraudulent elections in 2022!

Given the current trajectory, anyone with the slightest conservative leaning ain't ever going to "win" again.

They will spend the year solidifying their vote schemes. It’s their major agenda.

Amend USConstitution for DC, or as we should know, there is no lawful law in DC.

You’ll need a constitutional amendment to do recalls. There have already been several court cases testing recall and the answer is constitutional amendment.

"a new DC on the border of ND and SD and either MT or MN."

Somewhere "in the middle" was what I was thinking.

It should probably be walled off, with no permanent residents (like an airport that includes services).

Living conditions for those who have chosen to serve there should be comfortable, but certainly not luxurious.

Of course. I was in my “fantasy world” where if there are going to be changes made that the right thing be done instead of what the “powers that be” would want.

The Capital District is in the Constitution. It cannot be part of any state.

There are two other ways to create a state for DC residents that I can think of, but neither seem politically possible even though they take only 50+1 votes.

Which seats do you think the Republicans will pick up in 2022 in the Senate? The only 2016 races where the Democrat won narrowly in 2016 were Nevada and New Hampshire. I don’t know if Pennsylvania can be considered safe for the Republicans in 2022 (currently held by Toomey).

Georgia, Nevada, and New Hampshire. Also keep in mind that the People's Party is going to be a big factor in 2022 and 2024. Check on the web about it but keep it on the hush hush for now.

Washington DC is a construct of the U.S. Constitution. It can’t be a state without a Constitutional Amendment to modify the Constitution.

Guys, I believe the Dems will think PR will give them 2 Dems senators, but from a few PR citizens I work with, they aren’t truely Liberals...The people want to stay territory not becomes state. If they be one a state, you might see Republican Senators. If I’m not mistaken the Gov. of PR is Republican. Don’t write off PR...

It will take a Constitutional amendment to make the District a state.

Governor Pierluisi is a Democrat. NPP/Statehood party contains a mixture of Democrats and Republicans (former governors Fortuno and Ferre were Republicans for their “second affiliation). Politics in PR do not follow the same ideological fault lines as the US.

They do, through the votes of their Senators, or at least they did until the 17th Amendment.

Oh,... this press, yeah I think we can accept they’re in the
tank for this. No doubt about it.

Those headlines, Capital Invasion spurs renewed calls for
statehood.

Can you fathom a topic less related, and yet there it is.

Typical propaganda on steroids.
