Statehood for D.C. and Puerto Rico only needs 50 votes
The Week ^ | Jon Walker

Many journalists and political commentators have been pessimistic about the possibility of statehood for the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. This seems to be primarily because, despite the recent Democratic victories in Georgia, moderate senators like Joe Manchin (D-W.V.), Diane Feinstein (D-Calif), and Angus King (I-Maine) continue to support the legislative filibuster. It is impossible to imagine Republican senators voting to give Democratic-leaning areas full representation, so the issue must be dead on arrival in the upper chamber. But in a recent CNN interview, Manchin himself provided evidence for why this thinking is all wrong......."

Illegal unless the verbiage in the Constitution is changed by the 3/4 states.

Yeah, I expected this first off.

They want to establish a one party nation, modeled around
the USSR and the Third Reich.

Whites are today’s Jews.

The FBI has become the SS.

Puerto Rico’s independence is actually the best thing for them and I’m in support of it. That said, I’m also in support of Hawaiian independence but the deal is that they allow us to keep Pearl Harbor.

It also needs approval from Puerto Rico and I don’t think that will be happening. Current governor favors current status, NOT statehood. Plus why would they vote to begin paying federal taxes?

“I expect the legislative filibuster to disappear.”

I agree.

BUT, just like the Democrats doing away with it for Justices, this will come back to bite them.

The panty waist Republicans would never do this on their own, but keeping it after the Dems do it, is much easier for them.

We only have to survive 2 years (actually one year) of their attempts to destroy America.

Their RADICAL ideas and plans will become impossible to hide.
Their incompetent attempts at actually running the government will be an EPIC FAIL! The Democrats are TERRIBLE at governing.

Let them destroy THEMSELVES. They CAN’T help it.

WE MUST TAKE BACK THE HOUSE AND SENATE IN 2022. The Dems majorities are paper THIN!

Needs 67 votes, plus 3/4ths of the state legislatures.

Show me.. I think they only need 50 votes after they do away with filibuster!!

I’m not sure they will vote to end the filibuster since it is likely to become majority Republican senate in next election so they would be voting for a mere two year advantage.

A Constitutional amendment, not Congressional legislation, is needed to make DC an State...IMO.

Your post reminded me of Family Guy’s Peter Griffin.

He was ahead of his time when he created his own country of “Petoria”.

Which seats do you think the Republicans will pick up in 2022 in the Senate? The only 2016 races where the Democrat won narrowly in 2016 were Nevada and New Hampshire. I don’t know if Pennsylvania can be considered safe for the Republicans in 2022 (currently held by Toomey).

“DC statehood is illegal.”

ROFLMAO.

John Roberts says you don’t have “standing” to complain.

Also, Puerto Rico’s Resident Commissioner (i.e., the island’s non-voting delegate in the U.S. House) is a Republican.
