Rep. Jamie Raskin talks serving as impeachment manager after son’s death (suicide actually - he needs to grieve...why isn't Pelosi benching him?)
NY Post ^ | January 17, 2021 | Aaron Feis

Rep. Jamie Raskin on Sunday described balancing the trauma of his son’s recent death by suicide with the horror of the US Capitol riot and his duty as lead impeachment manager against President Trump.

“I’m not going to lose my son at the end of 2020, and lose my country and my republic in 2021,” the Maryland Democrat vowed in an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“It’s not going to happen.”

Raskin’s 25-year-old son, Thomas, took his own life on Dec. 31, following a long battle with depression.

“He had overwhelming love for humanity and for our country in his heart, and really for all the people of the world,” Raskin said, describing “a life that dazzled.”

Raskin remembered his son, a second-year student at Harvard Law School, as a talented slam poet dedicated to human rights and animal welfare.

The lawmaker said that he carries his son’s memory with him, and that he feels him “in my chest” — including on Jan. 6, when a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in an attempt to prevent the certification of Joe Biden’s election win.

“I felt my son with me,” said Raskin, who was joined that day on Capitol Hill by his youngest daughter and his son-in-law.

They “got caught in a room off of the House floor, and between them and me was a rampaging armed mob that could have killed them easily, and was banging on the doors where they were hiding under a desk with my chief of staff,” said Raskin.

...

Raskin said that his son is also with him in spirit as he proceeds as the lead lawmaker tapped by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in impeaching Trump on charges of inciting that very riot.

I am posting this out of serious concern and not hatred or partisanship.

Here is the timeline:

-Dec 31, 2020: Tommy Raskin commits suicide; Rep Raskin's office issues a statement on Tommy's passing without disclosing the nature of his death
-January 4, 2021: Rep Raskin and his wife posted a tribute online which stated that Thomas had died by suicide after a prolonged battle with depression.
-January 5, 2021: Tommy Raskin is buried
-January 6, 2021: Rep Raskin is back at work in D.C. to be sworn in with son and daughter-in-law

I'm no expert (I never lost a child to suicide), but regardless if a person is liberal or conservative, Democrat or Republican...NOBODY who loses a child to suicide, no matter for how long the child was suffering, can bounce back in a week and conduct himself at work objectively, IMHO

I understand the value of work to "deal" with trauma (I kept working in my office in Manhattan in the weeks after 9/11), and everyone handles devastation differently. However, this strikes me as being just wrong.

Primary blame, politically, rests with Pelosi - a REAL manager would bench Raskin, tell him to be with his family for a month, and give this sham of a job to someone who isn't emotionally compromised. It's not like there aren't scores of other bureaucrats who can push impeachment paper.

That said, if Raskin IS NOT suffering emotionally given his son killed himself three weeks ago, then there is truly some BIGGER problem with this guy.

It is bad enough that the Dems let a clearly demented man run for the Presidency. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Pelosi picked a man who's son just killed himself for a big hatchet job. People who take advantage of the weak are filth.

Ah, but Democrats don’t care about families unless there is money to be made (e.g., Biden Crime Family).

Yup. Raskin doesn’t give a shit his son died. He’s using it to help his political career. The death was merely a blip in the timeline of Raskin. I’ve met the guy. He’s a flaming ahole. Don’t be surprised if he comes out as gay soon especially if he thinks it would advance his agenda.

“...a second-year student at Harvard Law School...”

I understand why this tragedy occurred.

Raskin’s the son of a communist, his family’s foremost goal was to destroy the Republic.

A rampaging ARMED mob?

What arms? If they were armed then why didn’t they capture a couple of armed congresscritters, and why didn’t they use the weapons?

He is blaming Trump for his son’s suicide so he can channel all his hatred toward the trial.

The guy who had the wisest public comment I ever heard about these troubled times was actually a leftist Democrat who served briefly as governor of New York a few years back: David Patterson.

He was being interviewed on a local radio show back around 2016-17 when BLM and AntiFa were making a lot of noise. It may have been in the aftermath of the shooting attack on the GOP member of Congress.

The host of the show asked why these attacks were mainly being carried out by leftists. Patterson astutely and honestly pointed out (I'm paraphrasing): "Too many of us Democrats no longer believe in God, so politics has become our religion and we pursue political ends with pathological religious zeal."

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that this would apply to Jamie Raskin -- and probably his entire family, too -- in spades.

Things aren’t looking good for the republic with the Democrats in charge ready to change all of the rules to become the “because I said so” party.

Maybe he’s not aware that his actions after his son’s death
may tip off part of the reason for his son’s death.

I don’t have an axe to grind here. I don’t know the man and
he may have been a great dad.

A lot of kids feel abandoned by their parent’s constant
self-serving striving for success at any cost.

It can get to a point that it goes beyond reason, and the
other needs of your family get lost in the rush.

Do you mean which daughter? I didn't catch which one it was. My guess is they are both alike.

The one who said it almost was not phased by the fact her mother is akin to the tyrant Henry VIII.

If he were your father, he would have filled your head with all the twisted worldview you needed to be depressed as Hell and believe you’d be better off dead.

The BEST article in this regard was posted on FR right after Trump's 2016 win. In short:

Liberals have always accused social conservatives of bringing religion into politics, but liberals have done something far worse, and far more radical: They have made politics their religion...What they really want is liberal Sharia law, a secular theocracy... The minimum wage, gender equality, nationalized health care, and global warming—whatever their practical virtues—are not just expedient policy prescriptions. They are essential aspects of the liberal fatwa...Question them and you are not just wrong—you are a heretic.

I worked in NY during Patterson - I believe he came after Gov Prostitute resigned. Patterson is legally blind and, from my memory, wasn't bad at all. I am not surprised that a decent guy made such a statement.

Let me be clear...Raskin is a committed-to-the-cause left-statist. He's all-in on any activity to fundamentally change America.

I am not in the "liberalism is a mental disorder" camp. That's letting them off the hook. They know EXACTLY what they're doing. Their choices are antithetical to freedom and liberty and the founding values of this nation, but they're not ipso facto disordered.

But ANYONE who loses a 25-year old child has GOT to be emotionally crippled. Even more is the loss is to suicide.

If Raskin is NOT crippled due to his son's suicide, but WANTS to dive head-first into work, then he IS weakened emotionally...avoidance. It means work is ESCAPE and he will do ANYTHING TO escape. This means he's a piece of clay that Pelosi et al can form to whatever shape they want. Ergo, weak.

Anybody that doesn’t ‘get’ this about old hag Nanzi, should watch the orig version of The Manchurian Candidate with Frank Sinatra. The remake was pretty lame. The original version is near perfection in film making.
