Well, it was never going to be $600 plus another $2,000. Trump and some Dems wanted $2,000 checks to go out. The $600 checks have already gone out, so another $1,400 will make $2,000.

Supposedly Biden is already having problems getting democrats on board, Joe Manchin of WV has already stated he wouldn't support $2,000, and with a 50-50 Senate Biden has no room for even a single defection. So he'll either have to try trim down the bill to get a couple Republicans on board or try to change Manchin's mind.

I have a feeling the 50-50 Senate is going to come back to bite democrats, with Republicans in charge they could have blamed "the do nothing Republican Senate", but now they have excuses. The problem is, there are still a few moderate democrats who can throw a monkey wrench into any legislation, and it only takes one defection to kill it.
