The “Saints” aren’t marching in just yet.
After being postponed over COVID-19 concerns, the much-anticipated “The Many Saints of Newark” is finally set to open on September 24, 2021 — almost a year after its original planned release date.
“The Sopranos” prequel, which is being produced by New Line Cinemas and released by Warner Bros., was originally slated to hit theaters and streaming services in September 2020, Variety reported.
The David Chase-created mafia flick was later rescheduled for this spring due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Won’t be the same without Gandolfini
Amen to that. The casting was brilliant.
Looks like they got James Gandolfini’s son to play the younger Tony, so maybe it could work out alright.
I saw on the last season of “Agents of SHIELD” they did a time travel story and had Bill Paxton’s son play a younger version of Paxton, and he really nailed the mannerisms. It was almost like watching “Weird Science” or “Aliens” again.
My only complaint was so many story lines went nowhere. The guy in the woods who killed 28 Czechoslovakians, the rape of Tony’s shrink, etc. The ending was also an insult to the audience.
Quick look at the cast and it looks like a bunch of non-Italians in starring roles. That’s like casting Ben Affleck as Michael Corleone.
I agree. She wanted to tell tony so bad about he attack and did not. I wish she did.
Thanks!
How so? It's clear if you were paying attention, what happened.
The rape got closed off. She found out who it was but didn’t go sick her mobster patient on him. The guy in Pine Barrens Chase said it straight out: doesn’t matter, probably the guy thought someone approved a hit on him and he just split. I love the ending.
I remember hitting the tv after the ending because I thought the cable or tv had failed.
Too cool
The studio wanted Robert Redford as Michael Corleone. Coppola wanted John Cassavetes, who the studio thought to be too old. Coppola and the studio both wanted the Brit Lawrence Olivier as Don Vito (who would have been brilliant), but he turned them down and then we got the (non-Italian) Brando as a result.
What I remember from that brutal episode was after the rape, she said to her own therapist, “I could have him [the rape perpetrator] squashed like a bug, but...”—she chose not to use her connection to Tony Soprano to do that.
I don’t know whether it was Chase’s intention to portray her as an ethical practitioner with strong enough values to avoid that massive temptation, but that was my take-away.
Cassavetes was too old. I can’t imagine having him play Joe College when he was around 43(?). Olivier would’ve been a curiosity, but he didn’t have the beefy menace of Brando. Of course, I’d have loved to have seen Olivier play Brando’s role in “Last Tango In Paris” (especially the butter scene). ;-D
I didn’t see the series first run because I didn’t have HBO. When AMC ran it, I also thought something went wrong with my DVR. Dummy- I didn’t think to look it up online and waited until the series ran all the way through the second time.
Being obsessive about such things, I’ve read the extensive online discussions about what happened to Tony. I agree that what happened to Tony is clear... he was whacked by the guy in the Members Only jacket. I think I would have presented it differently, but I made my peace with the way it was done. What remains unclear, though, is the fate of the leftovers of “the best onion rings in the state.” However I doubt they remained edible after the unfortunate occurrence
How are they going to have Tony in this?
Tony is being played by his real life son.
