Even a Senate vote to remove Trump would not prohibit him from running in 2024; for the Senate to ban him from the presidency, it would have to hold an additional vote on this question.

WASHINGTON -- A viral tweet claims that impeaching President Donald Trump for a second time would mean he would lose the ability to run for president in 2024.

That's not true. Nor are other claims in the tweet.

Technically you are right. Alcee Hastings is living proof. He was impeached from his position as a federal Judge, but the Senate did not take a separate vote to invoke the penalty of lifelong ban of holding government office.

However, make no mistake: If the United States Senate can get 67 votes to impeach Trump, they WILL also vote to bar him from future office.

Correct. It does not seem likely they get the votes but would not rule it out. Trump has few friends.

Trump has few friends.

He has over 70 millions friends, they just aren't in Washington DC.

If I understood Professor Dershowitz correctly in an interview he gave a day or two ago any Senate “conviction” that might occur after he leaves office would have no legal weight whatsoever and would,in fact,be blatantly unconstitutional.

I am here to state that there is no statutorily defined method to exclude a person from running for President.   Someone needs to prove me wrong if they can.   A person can be denied Party support.   A person may not qualify to have a name on the ballot but even if it is a write-in candidate that wins office by vote, there is no way to prevent him or her from taking office.   Again, prove me wrong.

This apparent fixation of Nancy Pelosi's (hic-up) is a bunch of road apples.   Furthermore, even if the Senate was able to pass a separate vote to exclude a person from office, what is the mechanism to enforce it?   I don't believe there is one.

And a number of Senators would like to get into a primary and not face President Trump. Hopefully the pubbies in the Senate aren’t that stupid to think the party can win without us.

OK, now tell me what would the enforcement of that vote entail to prevent him from taking office if he was duly elected?   I do not believe it exists.

The only way Trump will be able to run in 2024 is if they allow him to run for a 3rd term. Yeah, you read that right.

I am not even concerned with 2024.   I am attempting to address the idiocy of Impeachment with 8 days let in office, in the futile attempt to prevent President Trump from running for office again.   As you say, Focus!
