Even a Senate vote to remove Trump would not prohibit him from running in 2024; for the Senate to ban him from the presidency, it would have to hold an additional vote on this question.

not the point
‘Hopefully the pubbies in the Senate aren’t that stupid to think the party can win without us.’
are you saying that if oeone other than Trump runs in ‘24, you will sit it out and let the dems run with it...?
“Trump has few friends.”
Im one of his 80 million “friends”.
“If I understood Professor Dershowitz correctly in an interview he gave a day or two ago any Senate “conviction” that might occur after he leaves office would have no legal weight whatsoever and would,in fact,be blatantly unconstitutional.”
Unless the Dems stack the Supreme Court. Then there IS no Constitution.
Took 18 posts, but right on. I was going from reply to reply to find any that reflected your thinking.
‘Yeah, you read that right.’
is that correct...? I didn’t think of that; Cleveland did not run after his first term, but ran a second time and won four years later...
Going back to the point. As the headline states "impeachment itself would not ban Trump from a 2024 presidential run", there this last days attempt to Impeach is insane. I am not even concerned with whether the President runs in 2024. I am pointing out that the attempt to block a penitential run for the President in the future is ludicrous.
It has never been done at the presidential level, but there is precedent for impeaching someone after they left office.
The Supreme Court has in the past ruled that the power of impeachment lies solely with the House of Representatives, and in not subject to court review.
C'mon, really? In order to be sworn in as President, you have to be eligible under the Constitution. 35 years old, natural born citizen, and not have been impeached, found guilty, and had the penalty imposed by the Senate.
Under your logic, if AOC were 'duly elected' then she should be sworn in as President, even though she is not yet 35 years of age.
They will not be able to convict before the 20th. And you cannot bar a private citizen from running for office.
MAGA 2024. See you in the camps.
Hey, maybe Freepers will get their own camp. Wont that be fun.
Except HummerGrumbler. He is a killjoy.
King or kingmaker. A Trump endorsement will be gold.
In an election with no fraud.
Dershowitz is a democrat but he is a constitutional lawyer first.
On Constitutional issues, he is very reliable.
No!
I *want* to go back to having spineless, politically correct, weathervane RINO candidates who stand for nothing and bow to everything!
/said no one, ever
They’re bastards, alright.
Actually, the Articles of Impeachment against Hastings did not include prohibition from holding an office in the future. They all end with the phrase “Wherefore, Judge Alcee L. Hastings is guilty of an impeachable offense warranting removal from office.”
The Article of Impeachment against Trump does include that additional penalty: “Donald John Trump thus warrants impeachment and trial, removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States.”
The specific punishment is included with the Article of Impeachment, so any conviction on the Article includes the punishment.
Not count them or report them.
The one thing the lamestreaming-deepstaters fear more than Trump are all of his followers.
For real.
Where did you read that?
Article II section 1 only states:
No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States. The rest you appear to have added because it's not on the Constitution. &nbnsp; So I should give back to you, "C'mon, really?"
They can impeach, convict, and punish Trump after he leaves office. Part of the punishment phase of impeachment severs lifetime pension payments, so it is allowed to impeach an office holder after they leave office if impeachable offenses come to light after they leave office.
