President-elect Joe Biden plans to release almost all vaccine doses immediately, a spokesman said Friday, a change from the Trump administration’s strategy of holding half of the supply in reserve for second doses.
“The President-Elect believes we must accelerate distribution of the vaccine while continuing to ensure the Americans who need it most get it as soon as possible,” Biden spokesman TJ Ducklo said in a statement. “He supports releasing available doses immediately, and believes the government should stop holding back vaccine supply so we can get more shots in Americans' arms now.”
The Trump administration has been holding back half of the available doses to ensure there is enough supply for everyone who is getting a first dose to later get a second dose as well. But the Biden transition said it is confident there will be enough manufacturing to ensure enough supply for second doses.
A group of eight Democratic governors also wrote to the Trump administration on Friday asking them to immediately release the doses held in reserve. But the Trump administration on Friday pushed back on that idea and noted that not all of the doses already distributed have been actually administered.
Now, the Biden team is saying it will make the change once it takes office on Jan. 20 in a bid to speed up the vaccine campaign, which has been off to a slow start.
More details will be shared next week, Ducklo said.
Scott Gottlieb, a former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner under President Trump, has been calling for making this change in strategy to accelerate vaccinations for weeks.
“This is a prudent move that will help expand Covid vaccine access to more high risk patients at a time when the epidemic is worsening, and the vaccine can be an important backstop,” he tweeted Friday in response to Biden’s announcement.
I would seriously suggest consulting a doctor before taking these rushed vaccines...
And the ones that require super-cold refrigeration in storage will go bad because the local hospitals won’t be able to handle it or distribute quickly enough.

I guess he’s not listening to the science. The first dose is about 45%-55% effective.
They can’t use what they have fast enough. Now they think they’ll be able to move faster when all are released?

The vaccine in the discussion officially NEEDS the second dose in order to be effective according to the manufacturer.
If biden makes good on his promise many first doses will be ineffective and the vaccine roll out will be in a bind playing catch up, with some possibly having to start all over because too much time passes from first dose to second dose.
Yup. Just load those pallets on some forty foot flat beds and hit the road. Hey, its winter so it should stay cool enough.
Sure who needs to actually have the second doses available?
First off this isn’t the “Trump Admin” this is the CDC. (Following the science again - aren’t we?)
No one is scrambling for these vaccines and the Trump admin is right - the vaccines spoil easily so it’s better to hold them in reserve then spread them around where the Democrat state and cities are botching the role put anyway:
There’s also a VERY REAL issue of side effects and deaths which, while minimal, is still many times higher than the regular flu vaccine.
Tl;dr-
Current supplies aren’t exhausted.
The vaccine is going through a beta trial period.
It’s prudent to continue at this pace.
But if Biden and his “scienth” team wants to turn us into guinea pigs faster - he’s free to take the damage.

Just start calling it the Trump Vaccine and Joementia will throw them in the trash.
They will sell them to the highest donor, er I mean bidder...............
Leftists want to “spread out” 2nd dose from weeks to months.
Even though the first dose barely confers 50% protection.
If you ask me they’re trying to rush socialist control. (No travellong unless you have your vaccine papers)
What could go wrong is that two doses are required, spaced three or four weeks apart (based on manufacturer.)
Give out all 100 million doses now, then there are no stocks left for the second booster dose, and you've essentially thrown away the first dose and now need to buy twice as much, and start all over again with the vaccinations.
Well, that could easily set us up for a 2-year full nationwide lockdown, which Biden would favor.
Democrats could screw up a grass fire..
So they give millions of first doses, and there is none for
the second dose.
Those millions of doses given, will do nothing, essentially
like them being tossed in the trash to begin with.
This is the clear headed (/s) leadership I expect from
Biden.
I’m no anti vaxer or anything but my wife and I have no plans to partake at this particular time.
Our state, NY, has plenty of vaccine, they have only used 1/3 of their supply.
